‘Heartbroken’ Angelina Jolie Opens Up $37 Million Los Angeles Mansion to Friends Who’ve Been Evacuated Amid Wildfires

Actress Angelina Jolie has reportedly opened the doors of her sprawling $38 million Los Angeles mansion to close friends who have been evacuated from their own homes amid the California wildfires, providing them with a safe place to stay until they can return to their own properties.

According to People, Jolie, 49, is “heartbroken” by the devastation caused by the historic blazes and is determined to do all she can to assist anyone who has been affected by the fires, including housing her displaced loved ones inside her own dwelling.

The wildfires, which began Jan. 7 in Pacific Palisades, have thus far burned through more than 40,500 acres, per Cal Fire, and claimed 24 lives, according to the Associated Press. However, Jolie’s historic home, which she purchased for $24.5 million back in 2017, has thus far remained unscathed—and is outside all current evacuation zones.

“Angie is heartbroken for those who have lost their homes, or are impacted by the fires,” an unnamed insider said. “She’s doing everything she can to help, even opening her home to friends who were forced to evacuate.”

Jolie then confirmed these reports while speaking to reporters outside of a grocery store in L.A., saying in a video published by DailyMail.com: “Yeah, we’re having people at our house.”

At the time, the “Maria” starlet was seen picking up supplies with her 16-year-old son, Knox, and she noted that she planned to donate money to the wildfire relief efforts but that she was focusing on taking care of the people who had moved into her home.

“Yeah I will [donate], right now I’m taking care of people close to me and having them at my house,” she said.

Luckily, Jolie has plenty of room to house guests—even if her six children all happen to be living with her—inside her enormous 11,000-square-foot property, which boasts six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, on a 2-acre lot.

The property, which sits just a stone’s throw from the iconic Griffith Observatory, was once owned by famed filmmaker and philanthropist, Cecil B. DeMille.

Jolie paid just under the $24.95 million asking price for the home more than seven years ago, forking out $24.5 million, although Realtor.com® now estimates that the property is worth around $37.4 million.

In addition to its many bedrooms and bathrooms, the Beaux Arts-style mansion, which was built in 1913, also offers an array of living spaces, including a “beautiful pool house” and a “studio house” that has its own entrance.

And while the home maintains its historic appearance, it underwent an extensive six-year renovation before Jolie purchased it—with the picture-perfect grounds and the swimming pool also given a meticulous overhaul.

“A newer classic old Hollywood style pool with arched fountains, surrounded by rolling lawns, specimen trees, rose gardens and dramatic views from the Observatory to Ocean sunsets,” the original listing description said. 

The Academy Award-winning actress, whose father is famed actor Jon Voight, bought the home not long after announcing her divorce from Hollywood icon Brad Pitt, who she married in 2014.

Jolie and Pitt’s split ultimately sparked a lengthy eight-year legal battle, with the duo fighting over everything from custody of their children—Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne—to their shared French vineyard, Miraval.

The couple recently finalized their divorce arrangement, with Jolie revealing to The Hollywood Reporter that, per the settlement, she has to continue residing in Los Angeles until her youngest children, 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, have reached the age of 18.

“But as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave,” she explained, adding that—when that time comes—she plans to quit L.A.

“When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety,” she said. “I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be—that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here.”

She revealed that she plans to “spend a lot of time in Cambodia,” where she already owns a home, and will also “spend time visiting her family members wherever they may be in the world.”
