‘Catfish’ Star Nev Schulman Reveals the Top Skill He’s Bringing From TV to His New Career as a Real Estate Agent

"Catfish" host Nēv Schulman has opened up about how his time on the reality TV show helped him jump-start his career as a real estate agent.

Schulman, 40, began hosting the series since 2012 and is now taking those skills to his new role as a real estate agent in New York City.

While speaking to CNBC, Schulman revealed that "Catfish" taught him that really listening to people when they talk is key to being successful.

He told the outlet, "A part of that is also being able to ask the right questions and help people, in some cases, to discover what it is they are trying to say. When it comes to buying a home, it’s very similar in many ways to falling in love or choosing a partner.

“There are so many boxes to check and sometimes you have to compromise but understanding what really matters and what your core values are and what the core characteristics of a partner or home is and being able to help someone discuss that and discover it for themselves and community it to me is a very meaningful bonus, having done it for the past 15 years."

And the show, which follows the journey of couples who have formed relationships online but never met in person, taught the host much more than just the importance of listening to others.

He admitted to the outlet that the series helped him discover new ways of sorting problems—a skill that comes in handy now that he is making appointments for clients.

“I’m so used to being told no and hitting dead ends, especially when it comes to searching for things. I think not getting discouraged and not taking no for an answer is a really good skill that I’ve built over the years making the show," he revealed.

Although it may seem shocking to fans of the show to see the beloved host working as a real estate agent, the 40-year-old revealed that it fell right into his lap and felt like a natural transition.

Schulman, who hails from the Big Apple, grew up watching his father, Robert Schulman, work as a broker at Coldwell Banker Warburg.

His grandfather, Lowell Schulman, worked as a builder and developer in the industry before he died in 2017.

“I’ve grown up in the city and have lived in so many different neighborhoods. Life in New York City is so much about your apartment and your neighborhood.

"You really want to feel good about where you’re going and your apartment becomes this sort of haven and place to recharge and I think that’s why I’ve always loved it,” Schulman explained.

Schulman revealed that it was his father who first brought up the idea of him working at Coldwell Banker Warbug, and it prompted him to think about his future.

“I thought this was the perfect time to give it a try, and here I am,” he added.
