‘Home Town’ Star Erin Napier Reveals Husband Ben Napier’s Weekend Habit That Still ‘Tickles’ Her 20 Years Later

“Home Town” star Erin Napier is sharing a sweet look at family life with her parents and husband, Ben Napier, giving fans the opportunity to smile along with an unofficial tradition that’s been making her laugh every week for decades.

In an Aug. 10 Instagram post, the HGTV host, 40, uploaded a candid snap of Ben, 42, taking a relaxing snooze in some comfortable-looking furniture, with his feet kicked up on a plush ottoman while he hilariously gripped a decorative lamp in his sleep.

“On Sundays after lunch at my parents’, for 20 plus years, he has been falling asleep in that red velvet chair and holding onto that lamp,” Erin explained in the caption. “This tickles me.”

The wholesome post was also subtle proof that Erin shares a taste for Southern-inspired, grand-millennial decor with her parents, who also reside in Laurel, MS. When an eagle-eyed commenter asked where the blue-hued velvet recliner in the corner of the photo was from, Erin noted it’s a piece from the Napiers’ Laurel Mercantile collection with Best Home Furnishings.

Featuring staples such as roll-arm sofas and functional swivel chairs in a variety of heirloom-inspired prints and vintage-inspired fabrics, the collection is a perfect reflection of Erin’s modern approach to a timeless aesthetic.

It comes as no surprise that Erin’s parents also have a passion for great living spaces. Her mom, Karen Rasberry, has worked as a real estate agent for more than 30 years and is likely familiar to fans of the various iterations of “Home Town.”

A broker associate at Howard Johnson Properties, Karen’s professional bio boasts a speciality in “providing her clients personal, professional expertise in buying and selling real estate.”

Erin has previously opened up about how her mother’s unwavering support has impacted her, especially during younger years, when she recalls feeling “a bit strange and introverted.”

“My mother had been a stereotypical Southern popular girl—the head cheerleader in high school and college,” the entrepreneur told Southern Living in 2020. “But she never tried to push me into that mold. She told me to be exactly who I wanted to be and to never ever do anything just to fit in.”

Erin, now a mother to two daughters of her own—Helen, 8, and Mae, 4— recently shared just how much she’s changed since her teen years.

In an Aug. 13 Instagram post, she wrote about how her younger self, “who listened to Pearl Jam, wanted to live in a shack near the sea, and never thought about ever having children would struggle to understand” what life looks like now.

Alongside a photo of some picturesque limelight hydrangeas, Erin went on to illustrate her day: rocking a pair of overalls, slicing “fresh homemade sourdough bread,” and asking her 8-year-old to “go ring the dinner bell for daddy to come in and make sure Bunny isn’t in the classroom or barn.”

The classroom the post refers to, of course, is the spot in which the Napiers homeschool their children.

The couple works closely with HGTV production to create a schedule that allows them to spend hours each day teaching the girls a handful of subjects, including history, math, and Bible studies.

On days in which a particularly involved project may pull Erin and Ben away from homeschool, they enlist the assistance of a friend—a retired teacher who helps sub when needed.

“Some people think homeschooling is weird,” Erin said in an April Instagram Story. “I did too when I was young. Around the time Helen was born, we met some homeschoolers who were so remarkable, so mature, so communicative, and interested in learning, it made us realize we wanted whatever that was.”

Erin and Ben make sure the girls enjoy an enriching schedule, filling days off with lessons covering everything from speaking French to horseback riding to playing the piano. They also take trips to museums and join peers for group activities, such as dance, art, track, and gymnastics.

Despite the tremendous effort of balancing Helen and Mae’s schooling with their own workload, Erin finds the arrangement worthwhile.

“We hope to do this for as long as it serves the girls, and someday send them to high school. It has been the best season of our life as a family that I thank God for every night.”
