A one-of-a-kind property with a celebrity pedigree is still hanging out on the market in Colorado’s western slopes.

Set amid the scenic foothills of the rugged Gunnison Range in the Rocky Mountains, this Crawford, CO, mansion was originally built in 1994 for the late rock legend Joe Cocker.

Known as Mad Dog Ranch, the 316-acre property comes with 15 bedrooms, a five-car garage, and a more-than-15,000-square-foot interior, situated throughout an idyllic estate styled after an English manor.

The primo spread was first listed in November 2022. After 300 days on the market, the gorgeous house still needs a buyer. And the $18 million price tag hasn’t budged.

The English singer was best known for his famous cover of the song “With a Little Help from My Friends,” which was originally written and performed by the Beatles. Cocker rose to fame in 1968 and performed at Woodstock the next year. The Grammy winner released some 22 albums over his long career.

After the performer died in 2014, Mad Dog Ranch was sold to its current owners. As such, the iconic estate has had only two owners.

“It’s a beautiful blend of English style set in a mountain setting,” says listing agent Dan Dockray. “The architect was John D. Kelley, and the design perfectly blends luxury with that comfortable, right-at-home feeling.”

This expansive estate has plenty of space for guests and entertaining, with seven spacious guest suites, 10 full bathrooms, and four powder rooms.

A real estate legacy

Cocker left behind quite a collection that the buyer will also inherit. The home is being sold along with the late musician’s prized art and collectibles, which include a historic snooker table that once belonged to King Edward VII.

“The snooker table has been certified as owned by British royalty,” says Dockray. “I’ve been told the Queen of England gave it as a gift to Joe. There are millions of dollars worth of collectibles and art in the home, including Joe’s piano and a gold record.”

All items, barring a collection of Warhols, will be included in the sale. Artwork aside, there’s something else to consider: the library.

“Lots of incredible books in there,” says Dockray. “The library is one of my favorite features in the home. Of course there’s also the amazing outdoor patios and pond with the dual waterslide and nearby chairs shaded under oak trees!”

Surrounded by lush national forest, manicured gardens and stables, and 60 acres of irrigated fields, the home offers nearly limitless possibilities for the next owner.

“Blending privacy, mountain life, and grand luxury is the definition of this property,” says Dockray.

With the nearest store about 25 minutes away, this estate affords a true ranch-life experience.

“Caretakers can stock the fridge and set up private meals,” says Dockray. “The home was situated here to enjoy a remarkable part of the West Elk Mountains and get away from everything.”
