Director Mike Mills is moving on from his modern mountain home in Nevada City, CA. He recently listed the more-than-2,000-square-foot place for $3.3 million.

Mills and his wife—director, actor, and author Miranda July—appear to have been married here in 2009.

The eye-catching estate was built in 2008, nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Architects from the Japanese firm Atelier Bow-Wow designed the three-bedroom, two-bath abode—the firm’s first (and only) home project in the United States.

Dubbed “Mountain House,”the 60-acre property is a work of art, with each detail meticulously executed.

The large, open-concept living room and kitchen are constructed with exposed-beam ceilings, stainless steel details, and a wood stove. There’s also a comfortable resting nook and a glass wall that overlooks the backyard.

Meanwhile, the light-filled bathroom boasts a soaking tub and remarkable, wooden-block detailing.

There are three proper bedrooms, plus resting nooks and a central day bed right off the kitchen. Each bedroom is cozy and bright, with wooden casement windows and glass doors that lead outside.

Mountain House offers the best of both worlds—while there are no neighbors immediately nearby, it’s still only a 15-minute drive into town.

Mills, 57, is known for his films “C’mon, C’mon” and “20th Century Women.”  He also has directed music videos for Moby and Yoko Ono. July wrote and directed the 2020 indie film, “Kajillionaire.”
