Met Gala hostess Anna Wintour kicked off the fashionable "first Monday in May" festivities a little early by throwing a very intimate celebrity soiree at her private New York City townhouse on Sunday evening—welcoming the likes of Zoe Kravitz, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez, Nicole Kidman, and Sabrina Carpenter to a dinner at her elegant abode.

Wintour's pre-Met Gala dinner party has become almost as iconic of a tradition as the main event itself and regularly sees swarms of photographers, fans, and autograph hunters descending upon the area surrounding the 76-year-old's $11 million Manhattan townhouse, turning the normally quiet street into a circus.

Each year, Vogue's global editorial director hosts a who's who of Met Gala guests at her private residence, where she has lived since 1992, when she purchased the property for just $1.4 million, although it is now worth millions more.

Several of this year's Met Gala co-chairs were in attendance at the private party, including Bezos and Sanchez—who are also sponsoring the main event—Kidman, and Venus Williams, whose sister, Serena Williams, was also spotted leaving Wintour's townhome.

Beyonce, who is also serving as a co-chair for the 2026 Met Gala, was not seen.

While details about the Met Gala itself are shared far and wide throughout the night, Wintour's private dinner party often remains exactly that: private, with little known about the goings on behind her front door.

The dinner party was one of a host of Met Gala-adjacent events being held throughout the weekend, with Bezos and Sanchez also throwing a much larger pre-party at their own New York City home the previous night, when an array of A-list guests joined the couple to mark their milestone roles.

Kris Jenner, Vogue editor Chloe Malle, Lisa Rinna, Gayle King, Nicky Hilton, Kendall Jenner, and Donatella Versace were all seen exiting the duo's upscale apartment building, which is located in NoMad and where they own multiple units, which Bezos purchased for a total of $96 million.

Among his collection of residences are a three-story penthouse, as well as the two apartments right below it, all of which are understood to have been combined in an expansive multi-story dwelling—with more than enough room for the couple and their celebrity pals.

By comparison, Wintour's townhouse offers a much more intimate setting, featuring just over 4,000 square feet.

Over the years, the fashion legend has shared just a few glimpses inside the four-story property, which was originally built in 1850 and sits on a highly sought-after block on which the dwellings all surround a private garden that serves as a kind of communal backyard.

Known as the MacDougal-Sullivan Gardens Historic District, the block was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, further adding to its allure.

All of the properties on MacDougal Street and Sullivan Street were built in the Greek Revival style, with the New York Times previously revealing that the district has been home to an array of celebrities over the years, including Bob Dylan and Baz Luhrmann.

Speaking to the outlet in 2016, Wintour's daughter, Bee Carrozzini, opened up about her magical childhood in the home, noting what a special place the garden was for her when she was younger.

"You could go across the garden to your friends’ house in a way that’s so, so rare in New York," she recalled.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Wintour has rarely allowed cameras into her home, save for a few Vogue shoots—including one 2024 profile about her dogs, in which the pups were pictured posing up a storm inside the townhouse.

In addition to her annual pre-Met Gala dinner party, the Vogue exec has previously opened up the property for several very high-profile events, including a 2023 fundraiser for President Joe Biden's 2024 campaign.

At the time, a White House spokesperson gave some insight into the way in which Wintour overhauls her home to accommodate her lucky guests, noting that the living room served as the main event space, having been cleared of all furniture in order to make way for elegant tables where dinner was served.

But if the planning and preparation took a toll on Wintour, she certainly didn't show it—moving on swiftly to the next Met Gala-themed event, which was held on the morning of May 4, just hours before the highly anticipated soiree is due to kick off at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Wintour joined her Met Gala co-chairs at the iconic museum to host a press conference celebrating the launch of the "Costume Art" exhibition, which inspired the theme of this year's gala, "Fashion Is Art."

That dress code is expected to prompt an array of unique outfits and ensembles—with guests encouraged to "consider the many ways that designers use the body as their blank canvas," according to Vogue.

In addition to her New York City pad, Wintour also owns a sprawling Long Island home, which is in the prestigious town of Mastic and sits on the edge of the Forge River.

Her property is accessed by a private gravel road and boasts over 42 acres, much of which has been elegantly landscaped.

She purchased the main Mastic abode in 1998, however by 2013, she had snapped up a number of adjacent properties, creating an expansive retreat for herself.

The primary residence on the property, which she once shared with ex-husband Shelby Bryan, boasts a Colonial style and was decorated by Carrier and Company.

Although the Hamptons are known for their luxurious properties and residences, Wintour previously revealed she wanted something more rural so she could have her own retreat.
