Beige Be Gone: Rainbow-Hued SoCal Home by HGTV Designer Is on the Market for $1.2M

To say this unique home in North County San Diego is colorful would be a major understatement.

The candy-colored interiors are thanks to the efforts of HGTV designer Jenna Pilant (pronounced “puh-lawnt”). Her philosophy, as noted on her website, is “ban the beige.”

She and her husband purchased the three-bedroom, 3.5-bath abode in Pauma Valley, CA, in 2016 for $675,000. Pilant remodeled it room by room and created a YouTube series in the process. The home was also featured on the HGTV series “Thrift Flip.”

The brightly renovated 4,179-square-foot dwelling is now on the market for $1,250,000.

“Much of the furniture is custom-made for the house,” says listing agent Tyler Dabovich, of GG Homes. “She is open to parting ways with it.”

Country club community

The home was built in 1991 and sits on a half-acre lot overlooking the golf course in the Pauma Valley Country Club community. The location is just minutes from Harrah’s Resort and a very pleasant drive to the wineries in Temecula.

This area is considered inland San Diego County, but it will take you less than an hour to get to the beaches at Carlsbad and Oceanside.

Kaleidoscope of color

Even before you step through the front door, you’re met with a kaleidoscope of color. The exterior is a cheery blue with black accents, the front door is bursting with various popsicle shades, and the natural red and green flowers and succulents tie it all together.

The vivid colors continue beyond the front door.

“I personally love the sunken [conversation pit] and dining room area,” says Dabovich. “The open concept, vaulted ceilings, and natural skylights combined with the eye-popping atrium and living wall make for a huge ‘wow’ moment.”

This great room has cement stairs leading to the conversation pit, which features built-in seating with Pilant’s colorful upholstery. It’s lined with bold blue tiles and red shag carpeting.

The kitchen is filled with light from the tall windows and skylights. It has a blue island, stainless-steel appliances, and plenty of storage and counter space.

There’s plenty of room for entertaining in the living room and lounge, each with its own fireplace, and a dining area with a wet bar.

All three bedrooms have en suite bathrooms. The primary suite is especially cheery with its grape-colored carpeting, custom bed frame, and wall art. It also has a supersized walk-in closet and access to the backyard.

The backyard contains a kidney-shaped pool, a grassy lawn, a landscaped terrace, and an outdoor living room.

There’s also a new HVAC system, a new roof, and a new solar energy system.

In contrast to the rest of the house, the 500-square-foot basement is all white—a blank canvas for the next owners to make their mark.

As a bonus, Pilant “will also offer her design/consulting services if someone needs advice on how to further decorate or design,” Dabovich says.
