Superstar actor and film producer Cate Blanchett got her start on the Sydney property ladder in this Art Deco apartment block — here’s your chance to follow in her footsteps.

Blanchett sold her one-bedder on the ground floor of Brooklyn Flats at 152 Brook St, Coogee for $358,000 — $60k above reserve — in 2001.

Now the one-bedder on the top floor, 5/152 Brook Street, has hit the market and it’s much better because of its ocean view.

The 65sqm space is set for auction with a $1.1m price guide for a November 23 auction via Shane Vincent and Nick Simitzis of Belle Property Randwick.

“We’re getting interest from first home buyers, older couples and people who want a Sydney bolthole,”

Vincent said.

Blanchett was a first home buyer in 1996 when she snapped up unit 2 on the ground floor — being a company title block, records don’t indicate what she paid.

Yet it’s known that she sold it for $358,000 — $60k above reserve — five years later.

She’d met the playwright and director Andrew Upton the same year she bought the apartment, and soon after they bought a larger Coogee apartment for $441,000, selling it for $950k in 2011.

They’d already bought their $10m trophy home in Hunters Hill in 2004 that sold for a suburb record of $18m in 2017.

The top-floor flat is owned by media and marketing professional Josanne Ryan, who admits she’s going to miss her longtime home.

“I’m moving to Newport, trading a view for a garden,” she said.

“But this is a fabulous location, close to Wylies Baths, the beach and cafes and just a hop, step and a jump to the city.”

She’s upgraded the kitchen and bathroom and the place has been newly carpeted.

Brooklyn Flats was built in the 1920s, and units in the well-maintained block of 12 rarely trade.

Though another one-bedder downstairs, with an inferior view, sold for $1.16m a month ago.
