If you’ve ever wanted to be the keeper of your own lighthouse, here’s your chance.

A striking oceanfront home with a lighthouse in Yachats, OR, just hit the market for $2,250,000.

The Cleft of the Rock Lighthouse sits on 2 acres of wooded privacy, overlooking the craggy coastline. The two-bedroom, 2,300-square-foot home was built in 1976.

“Its location on the Oregon coast, perched above the water on this beautiful spot, really makes this property stand out,” says listing agent Stacey Clendenin, of Realty One Group At the Beach. “It’s a legacy-type property. The owner’s father-in-law built it. He was a lighthouse keeper, and this was his dream home.”

Lighting the lighthouse

The property includes the lighthouse, which doesn’t currently function.

“It was a functional, privately owned lighthouse that was operational until 2015,” Clendenin says. “It is not currently being used as a lighthouse, but if someone wanted to, they could convert it back to a functioning lighthouse. It would cost a lot … which is why the current owner decided not to do it.”

Working or not, it’s pretty as a picture.

Getting the most from the coast

Views of the Oregon coast often come with surprise visitors.

“The whales are right there, and sometimes they get these residential pods that spend a lot of time there,” Clendenin says. “There is not a lot of oceanfront property left that has that kind of spectacular view.”

And all of that magnificent scenery is best enjoyed from the home’s wraparound deck, an especially beautiful spot to watch the sun rise and set.

‘Nothing quite like it’

“The home has been immaculately maintained over the years,” Clendenin says. “It has never been on the market before, so it has gained a lot of attention. Even in the community, people have been curious about it forever. It’s really very special, and there is truly nothing quite like it.”

As for who might be lucky enough to own waterfront treasure next, Clendenin is willing to speculate.

“It could be someone who wants a piece of property not located in a tsunami zone, or it might be a lighthouse fanatic,” she says. “It could also be a historian or investor who wants to own a lighthouse, because there are just so few of them available. The house could be used as either a primary or secondary residence. You could also make it into a bed-and-breakfast-type property, but the new owner would have to live there full time.”
