Imagine being able to glimpse the legendary landmarks in Washington, DC, right from the comfort of your home. That’s exactly what this three-bedroom penthouse unit in Arlington, VA, offers.

Listed for $6,950,000, the 4,600-square-foot unit spans the 29th floor at The Waterview and provides north, south, and east views.

“The most salient feature is the iconic DC views,” Hryniewicki notes. “There are 270-degree views that range from Georgetown University to the east that also capture the Kennedy Center, Washington and Jefferson Monuments, the Capitol, and over to Reagan National Airport. These are the best views of DC. A better view just doesn’t exist.”

The remarkable home was custom designed in 2008 for Ralph Shrader, chairman of Booz Allen consulting firm, according to The Washington Business Journal.

‘Best views of the city’

“To have a 2,000-square-foot condo in DC is considered large, so to have a penthouse of this size is really a limited product,” says co-listing agent Robert Hryniewicki, who shares the listing with Adam Rackliffe, Christopher Leary, and Micah Smith, of HRL Partners at Washington Fine Properties. “DC also has building-height restrictions, so this unit located on the 29th floor also offers the best views of the city. It sits on the bank of the Potomac River, so no one has a view of DC quite like this.”

The full-service building’s amenities are pretty enticing, too. There’s a front desk, valet, room service, a restaurant, fitness center, and hotel in the structure’s lower levels of the structure.

Three underground-garage parking spaces and extra storage space are included in the sale.

Hryniewicki says the seller bought the home as an empty “white box” back in 2008.

“The owners wanted everything laid out specifically and spared no expense,” he says.

For example, kitchen cabinets were custom built in England and shipped to the U.S. Plus, unsightly mechanicals are all hidden away.

“You also can’t see any air conditioning or return vents, as they are located in tray ceilings in between moldings and the top of ceilings,” Hryniewicki explains. “It was a very thoughtful layout and execution.”

Walls of windows, outfitted with automated shades, surround the building’s second-largest unit.

Luxurious details include “custom millwork, hand-stained wood flooring, and beautiful built-ins,” according to the listing.

The gourmet chef’s kitchen features marble countertops, a spacious pantry, and high-end appliances, including double wall ovens.

Silk-upholstered walls and custom wood panels line the hallway to the primary suite. A hand-painted tray ceiling, dual dressing rooms, and a spa-inspired bathroom with quartz countertops and Washington Monument views give the primary suite an extra dose of opulence.

Hryniewicki says he doesn’t want to predict who the next buyer might be. But the home with the unforgettable views could certainly appeal to locals or even serve as a showcase “landing pad” for a high-profile person with multiple properties.
