EXCLUSIVE: ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Author E.L. James Lists Glass-Walled Los Angeles Mansion for $7.25 Million
"50 Shades of Grey" author E.L. James has put her sprawling Los Angeles home on the market for $7.25 million—having slashed a staggering $1 million from her original asking price.
The writer, whose bestselling book trilogy was transformed into a chart-topping film series starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan in 2015, snapped up the dwelling in 2016 for $7.3 million.
Now, nearly 10 years later, the author, whose real name is Erika Mitchell, is attempting to offload the five-bedroom, 5.5-bathroom abode, which is described as a "modern contemporary" retreat in the listing.
The property spans 5,616 square feet and features "explosive views overlooking all of Los Angeles from Downtown to the ocean and beyond," according to the listing.
Luxury abounds from the moment you set foot on the grounds of the dwelling, which features enormous walls of glass mixed with brick accents on its exterior.

Upon entering the dwelling, guests are greeted by an expansive floor plan that features floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing natural light to flood in.
The cozy living area seamlessly transitions into the chef's kitchen, which features a large island, a bar seating area, modern cabinetry, and state-of-the-art appliances.
"Stone and hardwood floors, high ceilings, a high tech Kitchen features lacquered wood cabinetry and Miele appliances," reads the listing, which is held by Myra Nourmand of Nourmand & Associates.
One of the many bedrooms follows the same modern aesthetic with its floor-to-ceiling windows, which frame a sweeping view of the Hollywood Hills.
"Each bedroom is en suite and the primary suite offers a spacious luxurious private space & outdoor terrace patios," the listing notes.
The primary bathroom boasts a chic double vanity, a glass-enclosed shower, and a large soaking tub in front of a large window.
There is also a second lounge space, which doubles as an entertaining center, and it comes with a cozy fireplace, a foosball table, and access to the patio.
"The Media/Lounge features surround sound, wet bar, fireplace and walk-in chilled Wine Room," the listing notes.

The patio features a resort-style pool, lounging chairs, and a hot tub.
The property also comes complete with its own gym.
"[A] gorgeous, large pool appears to float in midair, an outdoor grill and endless options for outdoor dining. Ample 5 car parking plus an Elevator makes for easy convenience," the listing reads.
James is understood to be the only person to have owned the home, which was completed in 2016, the same year that she bought it and three years after the land on which it sits was sold for a relatively paltry $662,500.
The author snapped up the dwelling four years after debuting the first of her wildly successful books, which she initially self-published, before the series became a global phenomenon, prompting James to sell the rights to Vintage Books.
Although she has long maintained a residence in Los Angeles, James—who is British—lives primarily in her native U.K., where she is reported to own several dwellings.
In addition to a main dwelling in West London, the author and her husband, screenwriter Niall Leonard, are understood to own a vacation property on the coast in Cornwall, which they purchased in 2013.
