Elegant North Carolina Dome Home ‘Proves Corners Are Overrated’—and All for Under $250K
A "rare" geodesic dome home in North Carolina is proving that corner-less living might just be the way to go after hitting the market for the bargain price of $235,000.
Nestled on a verdant 4.6-acre lot in rural Reidsville, NC, the property—per its listing—"proves that corners are overrated" by making meticulous use of the space found within its circular structure.
While on paper, the property offers just 978 square feet of living space, inside, it feels far more roomy, just one of the many qualities that make it so special.
“It's a very rare home, obviously and it balances bold architecture with everyday livability,” says listing agent Marela Turkic with Keller Williams Realty One.
“From the outside, it's really striking and unexpected, but once you step inside, it feels calm, open, and actually surprisingly practical.”

It should therefore come as no surprise that the property attracted a buyer within a few months of listing—and is now pending an offer, although Turkic says she is still accepting backup offers.
The home was built in 1998 and has one bedroom, a lofted sleeping area, and two bathrooms.
“The curved design kind of creates a natural flow and allows light to move through the space little bit differently than a traditional home. It's very intentional and it's meant to be lived in, not just looked at,” Turkic says.
With the dome design, there are no corners in the house, except for the kitchen, with the listing joking: "Corners are out. Curves are in."
Yet the rounded walls do not impede a comfortable living experience, according to Turkic.
“You’d think it's impractical, but it's really not and that was very surprising to me," she admits. "I thought I would feel claustrophobic in there, but it really flows well.”
The small home sits on a large 4.6-acre piece of land so there is a lot of privacy.

“The original owner who built this actually had plans to do two more [domes] on the property and to rent them out,” Turkic says, adding the existing single dome would make a great rental.
There is also an 812-square-foot basement that gives the home more space.
“The basement is fully heated and cooled, but I did not include that in a square footage,” she says, adding that the home also comes with a shipping container, wired with electricity, which the current owner has used as a workshop.
The dome home has been on the market for a while, so when Turkic took the recent listing, she decided to switch up the marketing.
“Trying to frame it like a conventional listing is just not going to help, right? So the home didn't change but the approach did. We stopped trying to make it conventional and started telling its story,” she explains. “You make it unique and show it for what it really is.”
Turkic says the perfect buyer is someone who wants something unique and private.
“I love the little deck outside and they have a little spot in the back that kind of backs to the woods. It's a perfect spot for yoga.”
