Comedian Ellen DeGeneres is making moves to cut her remaining ties to the U.S. by relisting one of her final Los Angeles properties—just months after she and wife Portia de Rossi relocated to the U.K.

DeGeneres, 66, who has become renowned for her very lucrative real estate investment side hustle, has bought, flipped, and sold multiple high-value properties in California over the past 10 years, and now one of her last remaining homes is back on the market at a highly discounted rate.

The former daytime TV host and her wife bought the five-bedroom, 6.5-bathroom home for $29 million back in November 2022 and quickly put it back on the market for $33.9 million just 18 months later.

But as it turned out, the property was not cut out for the quick flip that the pair seemed to have been hoping for—remaining on the market for close to 100 days, before its listing was removed in August 2024.

Now, DeGeneres and de Rossi are trying their luck again, relisting the property for the discounted price of $29.99 million, reducing their potential profit on the home by quite a hefty amount.

A sale would mark only the fourth time the property has changed hands since it was built in 1955 by famous architect Richard Neutra, having been owned by the same family for 40 years until finally being sold for the first time in 1994.

That owner, who purchased the modernist home for the bargain price of just $1.42 million, held onto the property for a further 25 years before putting it on the market in 2019, when it sold for $20 million.

Three years later, DeGeneres and de Rossi added the elegant abode to their already-impressive property portfolio, paying out $29 million for the dwelling.

They have since renovated the home extensively, helping to restore Neutra’s “pioneering vision,” while also adding a host of modern-day amenities.

Per the listing description, the home, which is widely known as “The Brown House,” has plenty to offer a potential buyer, not least the architectural caché that comes from owning a Neutra design.

“Originally crafted in 1955 by the renowned Richard Neutra, [the house] stands as a quintessential architectural masterpiece nestled in the prestigious enclave of Bel Air,” the listing states.

“One of the most iconic homes to be built, it has undergone a meticulous restoration, thoughtfully revering Neutra’s pioneering vision while integrating modern luxuries. A true encapsulation of living in a work of art.”

Aside from its artistic design, the home also offers sweeping views of the Los Angeles skyline, as well as two “state-of-the-art” kitchens and a sizable living area that would be perfect for hosting.

“This is a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of architectural heritage, offering a lifestyle marked by grandeur and exclusivity in one of the most coveted locations,” the listing concludes.

The home would be the latest in a long line of properties that DeGeneres and de Rossi have sold off of late—following in the footsteps of a staggering $96 million Carpinteria estate that they offloaded back in August 2024, just a few months before moving over to the U.K.

DeGeneres and de Rossi purchased the sprawling dwelling in two parts in 2022, first snapping up the main property—a five-bedroom, eight-bathroom, Tuscan-style mansion—for $41.7 million. They then added the adjoining 6.58-acre land for $28.2 million in order to create a jaw-dropping, 10-acre estate atop a bluff overlooking the ocean.

That sale came just months after DeGeneres and de Rossi offloaded another staggering piece of real estate: an enormous mansion in nearby Montecito, CA, where the comedian lived within a stone’s throw of their close friends, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

DeGeneres sold that property for a relatively paltry $32 million in February 2024. It had been listed for sale in October 2023 for $46.5 million.

However, despite the comedian being forced to significantly lower her asking price on the Montecito home, that hasn’t stopped locals from accusing her, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, of driving up prices in the area.

In a recent article about the Sussexes, which was published by Vanity Fair, an unnamed Montecitan said that many locals are unhappy about the scrutiny and attention the community’s A-list residents have brought to the area—along with the hefty listing prices.

“I think everyone, including the A-list celebs, would prefer that it’s not on the map like it is,” the person told the outlet.

“The prince and ‘the starlet,’ as the Montecitan calls her, have become local villains, according to several people who spoke with VF,” the article states.

“They attribute the increase in housing prices to them as much as DeGeneres and point to out-of-towners coming in, driving too fast, and taking up all the street parking by local trails like the one Meghan was photographed hiking on while Harry was in the UK for Charles’s coronation.”

Those Montecito locals may well have breathed a sigh of relief in November, when it was revealed that DeGeneres and de Rossi were upping sticks to move to the U.K. for good, with a source telling TMZ at the time that they will “never” return to the U.S.

Insiders told the outlet that, while the couple purchased the property before the election, it was Trump’s win that prompted them to “get the hell out” of the U.S., with one source adding that the couple felt “very disillusioned” with the results.

DeGeneres was an outspoken supporter of former Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election, publicly endorsing her in a post shared on Instagram back in August.
