Extraordinary $25 Million Greenwich Estate Offers Gilded Age Grandeur for the Modern Age

When visitors first catch sight of the estate at 97 Pecksland Road, they could be forgiven for thinking they had accidentally stumbled across the set of a period movie—or a historic mansion that has long been converted into an events space and tourist venue.

Getting married there? Sure. Playing a round of bocce on the manicured lawn with a glass of champagne in hand? Certainly.

But calling the 19-acre Greenwich, CT, compound—which comes with nearly 18,000 square feet of living space spread across 10 bedrooms and more than 14 bathrooms—“home” feels almost too grand a claim.

But for all its museum-worthy extravagance, the extraordinary dwelling is, in fact, just that: a home.

And, what's more, it's a home for sale, currently listed for the very grand price of $24.9 million with real estate agent Robert Johnson of Brown Harris Stevens.

Perhaps even more remarkable are the home's origins. While it is reminiscent of the elaborate Gilded Age mansions of old, the property's history is, in fact, much more brief.

It was custom-built not in the early 1900s but in 2009 for liquor industry magnate John Frank, the former vice chairman of Sidney Frank Importing Co.

Thanks to Frank's impressive business endeavors, however, it still carries a pedigree worthy of its scale.

During his tenure at the company (which was founded by his uncle), Frank helped turn brands like Jägermeister and Grey Goose into household names. That might explain the presence of a wine cellar and tasting room, complete with a golf simulator, that is roughly the size of a Manhattan apartment.

It boasts so many amenities that its list of features is actually quite overwhelming—creating a daunting feeling that may well have taken a toll on prospective buyers.

Despite its staggering size and extraordinary offerings, which include a 30-car subterranean garage, castle-like interiors, and resort-like backyard, the mansion has struggled on the market.

The property has been listed and delisted multiple times since July 2022, when it was first put on the market for $33.8 million, after last selling in 2005 for $16.5 million, when Frank purchased it.

Still, there’s something undeniably enchanting about finding an authentic-looking Georgian-style estate—with its stone facade, steep-pitched rooflines, and symmetrical design echoing the great European manors—that was actually built in this century.

A grand double staircase greets you immediately in the main foyer, setting the tone for a home that really wants to make an impression.

Beyond it, a series of formal rooms unfold, including living and dining spaces, as well as a chef’s kitchen built for entertaining large parties.

Upstairs, the primary suite delivers every imaginable luxury: dual baths, multiple dressing rooms, and a private sitting area with a fireplace that opens onto a terrace overlooking the property. Six additional en-suite bedrooms round out the upper floors.

Outside, the grandeur continues with a glittering pool and spa, a separate pool house with two en-suite bedrooms, and lawns that stretch toward the tree line like a private park.

For any prospective buyers left concerned about the idea of running such an enormous home alone, never fear, because the estate also comes complete with a "further original structure used for staff housing."

"Unparalleled privacy and serene surroundings make this exceptional estate a must-see for the most discerning of buyers searching for architectural grandeur and exceptional amenities," the listing notes.

And though it may feel a world away from everything, this estate is actually just minutes from downtown Greenwich—proof that even the most extravagant properties can, sometimes, come with a convenient ZIP code.
