Kristin Cavallari has opened up about the terrifying moment she woke to find an intruder crawling around on the floor of her bedroom while her young son was sleeping next to her.

Cavallari, 37, who lives in Franklin, TN, detailed the shocking experience in a new episode of her podcast, “Let’s Be Honest With Kristin Cavallari,” recalling the horror she felt at seeing a stranger in her room.

According to the Uncommon James founder, the incident occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, while she and her then-husband, former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler, were on vacation in the Bahamas with their three kids during spring break.

She explained that they believed they were staying in a “really safe gated resort,” noting that she had even laid out her jewelry in the bedroom because she thought their property was impenetrable.

“We were in a condo, and then the last week or so that we were there, we switched into a house,” she shared. “And I had all of my Uncommon James jewelry in the closet just laid out. Our HVAC unit broke, so we had workers in our house that day and they were fixing everything.”

One night after moving into the house, Cavallari and her son Camden, who was 8 at the time, fell asleep in a bedroom together. The other family members were in other rooms.

In the middle of the night, the former “Laguna Beach” star woke up to the door opening, before discovering a man in a ski mask crawling around in the space.

“I woke up to my bedroom door opening. And it woke me up because of the light from the kitchen,” she explained. “And I woke up to a man crawling on my bedroom floor. And I was so out of it ’cause obviously I had just woken up, that I go, ’What the f— are you doing?’

“And this man stands up and runs out the door. … He had a ski mask on, full black arms, black pants, like the full thing.”

Cavallari said that she held in her feeling of terror for the sake of her son, joking that it felt like she was in “Mission Impossible.”

“And then I went, ‘Oh f—.’ Like that was not Jay. … I don’t know who that was,” she went on. “But because Camden was in bed with me, I didn’t yell. I didn’t scream. You think in those moments that that’s what you would do, but your instincts just kick in, and I honestly felt like I was in ‘Mission Impossible.'”

Cavallari said she immediately texted Cutler to see where he was.

“Well, obviously, Jay didn’t respond, it’s like 1 a.m. or something. So I’m like f—, I have to go out into the house by myself and leave my son here in bed,” she said. “My first thought was just to go.”

Cavallari went out into the house not knowing where anyone was—admitting that she initially thought something had happened to her other family members.

“I go look in the bedroom across the way, no one’s in there. … I go upstairs,” she said. “Jay was upstairs with Jaxon and Saylor I guess, now that I think about it.”

After finding her spouse, the former reality TV star said her nerves finally hit her. She “started shaking” as soon as she woke Cutler up, she recalled.

“I was able to process then what just happened. But until that point, I was not scared, I was really calm. … Again, you’re just running off of instinct,” she said.

She revealed her kids still don’t know about the incident, because it would scare them.

“That someone broke into our house, was crawling on the bedroom floor, and he was crawling on the bedroom floor going to the closet to get the jewelry,” she said. “To get the Uncommon James jewelry. Long story short, he took all the cash we had in a backpack. We ended up getting it back.”

Cavallari put her “divorce house” on the market in June 2024 for $11 million. The price was reduced to $9.95 million in August.

In the end, they found out it was the HVAC guy, with Cavallari calling it “one of the scariest things that I went through.”

Not long after, in April 2020, Cavallari and Cutler announced they were splitting and the mother of three moved into a Franklin property that she purchased for $3 million soon after their divorce.

In June 2024, she decided to part ways with the home, which she described as her “divorce house.” She put it on the market for $11 million, before reducing the price to $9.95 million in August.

The house is currently on the market.

In October, she revealed that she moved into a new Franklin-based property with children Camden, 12, Jaxon, 10, and Saylor, 9.

Speaking about the move on her podcast, Cavallari gushed about the property, explaining that she was particularly fond of her very spacious kitchen.

“My kitchen, I’m finding, has the best light,” she said. “It’s very open, it’s airy, which is what I like so much about it. There’s just a ton of natural light. I’m so excited that I’m in my new house.”
