This fall in Leominster, MA, homeowners should prepare for a season that leans cooler and drier than years before.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac has released its Fall 2025 Weather Predictions, and Massachusetts is forecasted for a brisk, classic autumn, a welcomed treat for anyone who has moved to the area looking for an authentic New England experience.

Given that Leominster just earned national attention as the #3-ranked market on the Realtor.com 2025 Hottest ZIP Codes list, it sounds like many new homeowners will get to enjoy the colors of the season.

Massachusetts poised for a crisp Fall

The Almanac projects that the Northeast will be cooler and drier than normal this season. September will average 59°F, about two degrees below normal, with 3.5 inches of rain—wetter in the north and drier in the south. October will average 46°F with just 2.5 inches of rain, delivering the kind of chilly air and scattered showers New Englanders expect.

Massachusetts specifically is expected to have a cool and dry fall, setting up ideal conditions for vibrant foliage and classic autumn weather.

Across the country, much of the western U.S. is expected to see warmer-than-average conditions, while regions like the Upper Midwest and Appalachians trend cooler. Rainfall will likely be below normal from California to Florida, with the Pacific Northwest and High Plains standing out as exceptions.

Leominster ranked #3 among America’s hottest ZIP codes

Leominster’s housing market is heating up despite the cooler forecast. the Realtor.com Hottest ZIP Codes 2025 report ranked Leominster’s 01453 as #3 nationwide, with homes attracting four times more listing views than the U.S. average and selling in just 18 days.

In June 2025, Leominster’s median listing price was $441,000, right on par with the national average but well below the Worcester metro median of $577,000. That gap highlights Leominster’s appeal as a more affordable option within reach of a major economic hub.

Other New England ZIPs made the list as well, including Beverly, MA (01915) at #1 and Cumberland, RI (02864) at #8. Together, they underscore strong demand in the Northeast, where suburban communities remain competitive despite high prices and tight inventory.

September home maintenance priorities for Leominster

With a cool and dry fall ahead, September offers a key window for homeowners to tackle seasonal maintenance before colder weather sets in:

  • Check walkways for cracks. “Fix walkway and entryway areas before slippery weather can cause a tripping or falling accident,” advises Ryan Williams, general manager of 128 Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electric.
  • Clean siding. After summer humidity, Chris Granger of Sears Home Services notes that siding can show mildew or dirt. A good pressure wash can refresh curb appeal and uncover hidden issues.
  • Sweep the chimney. Even if warmer days linger, cooler nights will arrive. “Built-up soot in your chimney can increase your risk of a chimney fire,” warns Lindsey Pasieka of ConsumerSafety.org.
  • Change HVAC filters. Dirty filters reduce efficiency and can damage systems over time. Granger recommends replacing them monthly to keep bills in check.
