“Suits” star Gabriel Macht is the latest among celebrities to turn their back on life in the U.S. in favor of moving abroad—but the actor is refusing to reveal where he and his family have landed.

Macht, 53, who starred alongside Meghan Markle in the legal drama, playing the role of Harvey Specter for nine seasons, opened up about his mysterious move in a new interview with People magazine.

The decision was actually many years in the making, explained the actor, who is married to Australian-American actress Jacinda Barrett. The couple had wanted to take their kids out of school and begin homeschooling them in 2020, he told the magazine. However, their plans were scuppered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the time, Macht’s run on “Suits” had just ended, and he had decided to take a break from acting to focus on family.

“Right before COVID, we wanted to take the kids out of school and homeschool them,” he shared. “But then we got stuck, and so we were in Manhattan. That just wasn’t doing it for us.”

Four years later, the couple—who wed in 2004 and share two children, Satine, 17, and Luca, 10—have now seized their change, packing up their lives and leaving New York City behind to see more of the world.

The catch? Macht refuses to reveal where in the world they are.

“We decided to explore the world, so we left. I am based somewhere in Europe, but I don’t tell anybody where I live because I like to keep that under wraps,” he said.

“I got out of town, and we’re exploring the world.”

Macht was born in The Bronx, NY, before his family relocated to Los Angeles when he was 5. His maternal grandmother was born in Russia, while his maternal grandfather was a Ukrainian immigrant who moved to the U.S.

“I grew up in L.A. and I lived in New York for many, many years,” he told People. “Half of my life on the East Coast, half of my life on the West Coast.”

Meanwhile, Barrett was born in Brisbane, Australia, and spent several years living in the U.K. and Europe, before moving to the U.S. to pursue her on-screen career.

Macht reassured “Suits” fans that he would reprise his role in “Suits L.A.,” the upcoming spinoff of the hit show, despite confessing that he had “very little interest in coming back to work as an actor.”

Instead, he said he wanted to focus on raising his children and pursuing more “creative” projects like becoming a creative partner and executive shareholder in whiskey brand Bear Fight.

Macht and Barrett have joined a growing list of Hollywood stars who have moved out of the U.S. In the past few months alone, Richard Gere and his wife, Alejandra, have relocated to Spain, while Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, are pursuing a new life in the U.K.

While Macht has revealed little about where he and Barrett plan to settle down with their children, he did take time to praise the first responders who helped to fight the devastating wildfires that swept through his former hometown at the start of January.

“To all the brave first responders—I have deep gratitude for your presence in the city I grew up in,” he wrote on Instagram alongside an image of a firefighter battling the flames.

“My family are thankfully safe not directly (for now) in the line. What some of my friends and colleagues are experiencing—I would never wish on anyone. My heart goes out to everyone in the communities affected by the devastation and loss.

“May your loved ones be close and protected, may your pets and livestock be safe, and may your cherished memories withstand the challenges of this brutal moment.

“To all the families suffering for the loss of their neighborhoods, schools, markets, homes and hideouts—peace and strength. My heart goes out to all of you.”
