Miami Heat Star Jimmy Butler Is Renting $70,000-a-Month Florida Mansion as Rumors of NBA Trade Continue to Swirl
Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler‘s future with the Florida team remains shrouded in mystery amid ongoing rumors that the team might trade him. However, that hasn’t stopped the basketball pro from laying down some roots in the Sunshine State in the form of a $70,000-a-month Miami Beach mansion.
According to sources familiar with the lease agreement, the six-time NBA All-Star is currently living in a “one-of-a-kind” palatial property on Hibiscus Island, having sold his South Florida home for $8.3 million earlier this year.
The decision to rent a home rather than buying a new property may well raise further questions about Butler’s future with the Miami-based team. Butler, a Houston native, signed a four-year contract extension worth $184 million in 2021 and still has a hefty $49 million left on that deal.
Addressing the furious speculation surrounding his future—which has thus far seen multiple teams put forward as a potential base for Butler, 35, from the Brooklyn Nets to the Los Angeles Lakers—the athlete conceded that he doesn’t mind being at the center of the NBA rumor mill.
“I actually like it,” he told ESPN. “It’s good to be talked about. I don’t think there’s such a thing as bad publicity … to a point.”
For now, he is apparently living the high life in his 8,500-square-foot abode, as first reported by The Real Deal.
Should Butler end up remaining with the Heat, he has the option to purchase the property that he is currently renting, albeit for the sky-high price of $30 million, more than three times the price of the home he recently sold.
The swanky estate was last sold in 2021 for $21 million. Since then, it has been on the market both for sale and for lease, most recently asking $95,000 a month.
Offering five bedrooms and seven baths across 6,000 square feet, the 2001 build is a “one-of-a-kind Mediterranean estate” located on one of the most “sought-after plots” on Hibiscus Island, the listing states.
The waterfront residence offers views of the Miami skyline. The custom abode comes with open spaces and luxury finishes. It comes with a private dock with a boat lift that spans 125 of water frontage.
The island on Biscayne Bay includes a community basketball court, tennis court, and playground, the listing adds.
Real estate wheeler-dealer
The athlete is no stranger to real estate deals as he’s purchased and sold homes in Miami in the past few years.
In June 2022, he picked up digs in South Miami for $7.45 million. He moved on from that opulent manse exactly two years later, snagging himself a tidy profit in the sale of the property for just a hair under $8.3 million.
That property purchase came after Butler parted ways with another Miami mansion that he bought in 2019 for the relatively low price of $4.5 million.
Again, he lasted just two years in the home before deciding to upgrade, selling off his first Miami property for $7.11 million—adding almost $3 million to his purchase price.
And it’s not just Florida where the NBA legend has expanded his property portfolio. The Olympic gold medalist also owns an off-season spread outside of San Diego.
The Spanish revival estate that he reportedly remodeled includes a coffee shop, which is right in line with the coffee company he owns, Big Face.
