Someone snatched up a midcentury modern gem in Lexington, KY, a month ago, but things didn’t work out.

So the four-bedroom, four-bathroom looker is back on the market for someone else to grab. And it’s quite the rare catch.

“There aren’t a lot of midcentury modern homes in the area,” says listing agent Teresa Blakeman, with The Brokerage. “It was built in 1962 and has been very well maintained. It has a very different look to it.”

The 3,633-square-foot home is listed for $1,520,000 and is a good mix of original details and 2023 conveniences.

“The house is so unusual with original terrazzo floors, the curves to it, the views out the back, and the light,” Blakeman says.

The home has new skylights, a backup solar electric system with panels, and three Tesla Powerwall batteries.

New appliances in the kitchen are ready for eager home cooks.

“The kitchen is new but is in line with the history of the home,” Blakeman says. “The owners who updated the kitchen didn’t change the layout of the house.”

The primary suite is on one side, with an atrium separating the other bedrooms and living areas.

“This is a one-of-a-kind house,” Blakeman observes. “You just don’t see these. We have nothing like this. When you walk in, the light comes in everywhere. It just feels so Zen like. It will calm you down when you come in.”

Harvard-trained architect Richard Schubert designed the home.

“He used an organic-looking steel screening that you can see from several windows that is very unique,” Blakeman says.

The same design also surrounds the front door.

She notes that several designers have perused the place during open houses.

“People love it,” she says. “It’s like living inside a work of art.”
