NFL star Myles Garrett has requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns after eight seasons with the team—revealing in a statement shared Feb. 3 that he has “loved calling [the] city his home” but that he feels obligated to find another team so he can fulfill his “desire to win.”

Garrett, 29, left the football world reeling when he shared the news, issuing a statement to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport in which he explained his decision in full, while voicing his gratitude to the “community of Northeast Ohio” for making him feel so welcome for so many years.

“As a kid dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl—and that goal fuels me today more than ever,” he said.

“My love for the community of Northeast Ohio and the incredible fan base of the Cleveland Browns has made this one of the toughest decisions of my life. These past eight years have shaped me into the man that I am today.

“While I’ve loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl. With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns.”

In 2020, Garrett—who was drafted as the number one overall pick by the Browns back in 2017—signed a five-year, $125 million extension, and he still has two years left on his Cleveland deal.

And his statement was likely all the more surprising to football fanatics given that it came just days after Browns general manager Andrew Berry revealed the team would be planning their future around him.

In a press conference Berry said: “We feel really good about Myles obviously as a big piece of our future. We’re looking forward to him being on the field. Like I said in my [early January] press conference, we envision him going from Cleveland to Canton when his career is over.”

Berry also revealed he would reject a trade offer for Garrett that included two first-round picks.

However, Berry’s confidence that Garrett would go “from Cleveland to Canton”—a reference to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which is located in Canton, OH—seems to have irked Garrett, who made clear in his own statement that this was never his career goal.

The Cleveland Browns have been a part of the NFL since 1946; and the team has collected eight NFL championships, they have yet to make it to the Super Bowl, which Garrett revealed was one of his career goals.

So, if Garrett is ready to bid adieu to his longtime NFL team, is he set to say goodbye to his Ohio property?

The NFL player purchased his Ohio home for $1.2 million in 2018 and became known for his elaborate Halloween decorations.

Garett has become known for putting up elaborate Halloween decorations outside of his stunning property, including a Terminator-themed display and a Stranger Things-themed display.

His most recent display—a Terminator-inspired lawn set-up—saw him taking aim at several other NFL players, adding skeletons that were decked out in jerseys belonging to a host of talented quarterbacks, including Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson.

The Browns previously showcased his decor on Instagram and praised him, adding that he “wins” at Halloween “every year.”

It is believed that Garrett lives in the home with his girlfriend, Serra Tumay, whom he has been dating since 2019.

The pair have kept their romance under wraps in recent years, so it is unclear if she is still living with the NFL star.
