A rare double A-frame Eichler home that was originally designed by famed architect A. Quincy Jones and recently underwent a "meticulous reinvention" has hit the market in Southern California for $2.39 million.

The property in Thousand Oaks was designed by Jones in the 1960s and completed by midcentury modern developer Joseph Eichler—best known as the man who "brought modernism to the masses"—in 1964.

Today, the post-and-beam residence still maintains Jones' original layout and trademark elements, which include the double A-frame design, so-called because of the two identical pitched roofs that border a central atrium.

In keeping with Eichler's hallmarks of midcentury modern excellence, the home features an array of awe-inspiring materials, including hand-sanded original redwood ceilings, Venetian plaster walls, Taj Mahal quartz slabs, and a resort-inspired marble pool.

Listing agent Nina Kurtz, of Compass, notes that those elements are just part of the home's allure.

"The indoor-outdoor living flow, articulation of communication with nature, and beautiful architectural lines are some of the home's premiere features," Kurtz notes.

The midcentury modern dwelling, which last changed hands in 2024 for $1.53 million, underwent an impeccable restoration at the hands of the most recent owners.

"The sellers bought it from the original owners and did all of the updates, sparing no expense," Kurtz adds. "It was a passion project for them. They didn't expect to be moving, so it was designed as their forever dream home."

Also found throughout the 2,460-square-foot interior are Porcelanosa Bottega tile, wood-paneled walls, radiant-heated floors, tongue-and-groove wood ceilings, and glass walls.

"The ceilings were restored to show off the original redwood," she said. "They had someone hand-sand it for weeks to reveal the architectural integrity."

An expanded kitchen now features two distinct wings with custom cabinetry, Taj Mahal leathered quartz countertops, designer lighting, and a built-in espresso and wine bar.

Walls of glass turn the backyard of the property into a living work of art that can be enjoyed from almost every room on the main level—while also flooding the spaces with natural light.

"There is so much light that flows through the home," Kurtz adds. "The place is so super special. With this Eichler, I haven't seen anything done with this craftsmanship in the neighborhood. It's very rare to get a piece like this."

Among the four bedrooms is a primary suite designed as a personal sanctuary, complete with a walk-in closet, spa-inspired bathroom, and direct access to the saltwater pool area.

The exterior of the home has also been meticulously maintained and updated, offering a veritable oasis of lush vegetation.

"There are 40 different varieties of award-winning roses, established fruit trees, and a fire pit," she says. "They made it like a fragrant, beautiful escape experience. There is also a pergola off the kitchen that is ready to have an outdoor kitchen."

Kurtz says she believes the home will likely be used as a primary residence—and will likely appeal most to those with a passion for natural beauty and impeccable design.

"The next buyer will be someone who appreciates architecture, beauty, and nature," she notes. "In order to understand it, you have to be able to appreciate the finer things in life.

"It also has great proximity to Los Angeles and is just outside of town, but you feel a world away with great access. All of the details have a cohesive vision and were so thoughtfully created that you are left feeling super impressed."
