A fully restored storybook cottage from 1931 is ready for a new chapter. The Minneapolis abode is available for $789,000.

The 2,870-square-foot home was lovingly renovated and maintained by its current owners for the past 13 years. They paid $450,000 for the property in 2010, according to Realtor.com®.

“I sold this home to Peggy and Sharon when the exterior was cedar shakes roof and siding,” says listing agent TJ Pierret. “They kept the 1931 charm but added in more modern touches, making the home very eclectic and unique.”

Notable features include a new gas fireplace and pine paneling, new tile and a soaker tub in the bathroom, and a unique “barrel-ceiling” hallway with cabinet storage space.

House with history

The house also comes with an interesting history: It has connections to one of the local female legends of the nearby University of Minnesota.

Dr. Vera Lois Erickson, who owned the home from 1976 to 1997, was a pioneering professor of educational psychology and part of the group of women who sued the university for pay discrimination,” says owner Peggy Schulte.

After winning the lawsuit that would benefit generations of women, Erickson mentored other women, then retired from the University of Minnesota in 2005.

“We like to believe her spirit continues to bless the house,” Schulte adds.

The three-bedroom home is nestled in a quiet, tree-lined neighborhood with access to the best of the Twin Cities—including the nearby Mississippi River and 51 miles of the Grand Rounds biking and walking trail system. It’s also within walking distance of art museums, restaurants, farmers markets, and shopping centers.
