Savannah Guthrie Returns to ‘Today’ With a ‘New Voice’ After Recovering From Vocal Cord Surgery at $11 Million Townhouse
"Today" show anchor Savannah Guthrie has returned to the NBC studios with a "new voice" after undergoing vocal cord surgery that left her unable to speak for days.
The 54-year-old revealed during a December episode of "Today" that she would be going under the knife at the start of 2026 and would subsequently be away from the morning show's Manhattan studios for a "couple of weeks" while she recovered at home.
Now, after sharing several updates on her progress, Guthrie has made a triumphant return to the "Today" desk, unveiling her "new voice" to viewers, having spent several weeks recovering from her procedure at her $11 million Brooklyn home.
Guthrie teased her recovery in a Jan. 23 segment, when she shared a heartwarming clip of herself speaking for the first time—revealing that she broke down in tears at hearing her "new voice."
"It sounds so good, I could cry," she said. "Once again, I was speechless!"

She also opened up about the changes that she noticed to her voice, explaining how it had deteriorated significantly throughout 2025.
"What I thought was just normal aging and wear and tear got much more noticeable, and this past year, much worse," she said. "Sometimes, it was hard to get through a sentence."
While some voiced concerns about Guthrie ahead of her procedure, she assured fans that the surgery was "not a big, big deal," and she was quick to update viewers on her recovery process after the operation had taken place.
On Jan. 6, she shared a health update, telling fans that although she was "all good," she was not yet able to talk.
The TV personality and mother of two—who celebrated her 54th birthday on Dec. 27—took to Instagram to reassure "Today" viewers that she was recovering well, sharing a photo of herself holding up a small whiteboard, which read: "All good! Thanks for prayers and love!"
She captioned the flick of her smiling while holding the sign up, "See you soon."
Guthrie announced the news of her surgery on Dec. 19, revealing that several viewers had pointed out the changes to her voice.
“Some of you have noticed that my voice has been very scratchy and started to crack a little bit. Well, I have found out what it is," she explained, before going on to detail her diagnosis.
"I have vocal nodules, and I also have a polyp. It’s not a big, big deal, but I am going to have to have a surgery in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks, so this is my last day for a little while."

She continued by expressing her relief that a long-running issue had finally been diagnosed, even thought it meant having an operation, revealing: "This has been going on for years, honestly, so to have a solution..."
Guthrie joked that some "Today" fans had assumed she simply had "the world's longest head cold."
She went on to make light of her recovery, noting that her inability to speak would likely be seen as a big plus by her husband and kids.
“Totally silent. Christmas coming early for my family!" she said with a laugh.
Guthrie also had a helping hand in the form of her co-star Sheinelle Jones, who revealed that she has also undergone the same surgery in the past—noting that there are plenty of advantages to the recovery time.
“The silver lining is you have permission to be still. The house gets quiet, the kids are gonna want to help you out. A lot of the greats have done it, maybe you’ll come out singing like, I don’t know, Celine Dion," Jones said.
Guthrie joked, "Well, you know, it’s really funny, I used to sing. Then I couldn’t sing anymore and then I couldn’t speak anymore. So who knows, guys, the tour is happening in 2026.”
Guthrie recovered from her surgery at her $11 million Brooklyn townhouse, where she has lived with her husband, Michael Feldman, and their children, Vale and Charley, since 2023.
According to records, Feldman and Guthrie shelled out $11.35 million for their 4,500-square-foot abode, which features six bedrooms and four bathrooms.
The family moved into the enormous dwelling after offloading their Tribeca apartment because they had a "vision and dream of living in a townhouse."
