Srini Gopalan, T-Mobile's current COO, is set to step in as CEO on Nov. 1, 2025, taking over from Mike Sievert, just as the company pushes forward with scaling its home internet service into even more markets.

Sievert led the company through its $26 billion Sprint merger in 2020, as well as the 2025 acquisition of Lumos, overseeing perhaps the most significant growth for the company.

Meanwhile, Gopalan, 55, has handled much of the U.S. company’s day-to-day business since he became its operating chief in January. But the plan had always been to promote him to the top role, according to Sievert.

“I couldn’t be more excited to announce Srini Gopalan as our next CEO,” said Sievert said in a company press release. “When I recruited Srini to be our COO, I knew he had the skills, experience and Un-carrier mindset to lead our company into the future. Srini has been an incredible partner in shaping the future of T-Mobile as well as instrumental in leading our record growth this year and driving initiatives to serve customers in new ways and win them for life. One fact has become crystal clear: Srini is ready to lead."

Gopalan previously worked for Deutsche Telekom as the head of its German home market, and he steps in just as T-Mobile has been rapidly expanding its 5G home internet service.

What T-Mobile’s CEO change means for homeowners

Because Gopalan has already been managing T-Mobile’s daily operations, the leadership change isn’t expected to shake up strategy. Instead, the company insists it signals continuity and further growth in broadband.

During Sievert’s tenure, T-Mobile drew millions of broadband customers from the cable industry-dominated markets by using its 5G wireless network to offer internet service to homes and businesses. Now, homeowners can get Wi-Fi in their homes without the need for a cable hookup.

As for the future, the company is exploring the wired-broadband business, including through a roughly $5 billion investment in a joint venture with investment company KKR.

“We really like wireless as a neighborhood in the U.S., and we have clearly outperformed everyone else,” Gopalan said in a Wall Street Journal interview. T-Mobile’s home broadband business has more room to grow.

“We’ve shown our hand in fiber," he said. "We like pure-play fiber, we like the idea of scaling that business, got two acquisitions already, and we’re looking at what other value-creator deals are there.”

The future for homeowners

Today, nearly 7 million customers nationwide rely on T-Mobile 5G Home Internet, the company reports. The "Un-carrier" currently ranks No. 1 in Customer Satisfaction for Residential Wireless Internet Service Nationally, according to J.D. Power, and has also received top honors from other independent reviewers.

While T-Mobile is best known for its wireless service, the company has been steadily expanding into home broadband. In summer 2025, it launched T-Mobile Fiber Home Internet, extending availability to more than 500,000 U.S. households and bringing gigabit-speed broadband to more communities.

“With the official launch of T-Mobile Fiber, we’re delivering on our promise to bring better broadband to more people—the Un-carrier way,” said Allan Samson, chief broadband officer at T-Mobile, in the official announcement. “Our new plans, backed by long-term price guarantees, are designed to give customers more choice and peace of mind. And we’re just getting started. As the fastest-growing broadband provider in the country, we’ll keep expanding T-Mobile Fiber to reach more communities and continue finding ways to add value to our plans.”

Keeping to that commitment, in July, the company completed a $2 billion multiyear network expansion across Florida. The upgrades deliver faster 5G speeds and wider coverage, reaffirming T-Mobile’s leadership in wireless innovation and its commitment to supporting economic growth in the Sunshine State.

The investment makes high-speed internet across Florida more accessible, with enhanced network capacity, broader coverage, and improved performance. The expansion is expected to provide faster data speeds, stronger reliability, and wider coverage for 22 million Floridians, while also supporting emergency response systems and smart city initiatives.
