Vermont’s Very Own ‘Eden’ Is a $6 Million Estate That Looks Like a Hallmark Movie Set

The holiday season may well be behind us, but that has done little to quell the desire for picture-perfect snow-topped abodes that look as if Hallmark movie queen Lacey Chabert could waltz right out of the door at any moment.

Which is exactly what house hunters will find at one stunning Vermont abode that recently came on the market for $5.95 million and looks very much like the backdrop of every hit holiday movie seen on screens.

The aptly named "Eden" in Stowe, VT, may not have served as a film set, yet it boasts more dramatic appeal than any other home you might find on the market.

The nearly 12,000-square-foot estate at 484 Edson Hill Road is set in the heart of Stowe and perfectly positioned halfway between the shop-lined streets of the village and the ski trails of Stowe Mountain Resort.

Newly listed for $5.95 million, the property offers one lucky buyer the chance to get cozy in Vermont’s most storybook ski town—proving that Santa might still have one last gift up his big red sleeve.

Built in 1996 and designed by architect Bud Wilson for a local family, the home has changed hands only twice since its construction.

According to listing agent Alison Beckwith, with Vermont Real Estate Company, the current sellers are the third owners, who initially purchased the residence as a primary home after moving to Stowe with their children.

In the years since, however, the family has found further use for the dwelling—as a very lucrative rental.

“Since they spend more time abroad now, they have offered the property as a vacation home and event venue, generating robust income in their absence,” Beckwith notes.

Set on more than 21 private acres, Eden delivers privacy that’s increasingly hard to come by in Stowe—especially with its proximity to everything. The land directly abuts Wiessner Woods, a roughly 76-acre Stowe Land Trust preserve, giving the estate a storybook backdrop of protected forest and trails.

“You can walk out the door and enjoy Eden’s private 21-plus acres but also access these wood trails, essentially providing nearly 100 acres to explore,” Beckwith explains. The trail network also connects to the famed Catamount Trail, ideal for walking, snowshoeing, and quiet winter outings.

The outdoor amenities of the property itself are equally appealing. Two spring-fed ponds offer year-round enjoyment for swimming, fishing, or ice skating, while a clay tennis court with an adjacent terrace sets the scene for leisurely summer afternoons.

A swimming pool anchors an expansive stone patio, surrounded by landscaped grounds that seem both intentional and natural.

“The indoor and outdoor amenities are geared to both sports and relaxation,” Beckwith says.

Architecturally, the home leans classic. A stone-faced turret marks the entry, complemented by clapboard siding and shingle accents that nod to New England tradition with what Beckwith describes as “a murmur of French-country.”

Inside, the turret’s curve repeats through the home, from the mudroom, which connects to a heated three-car garage, to the hallways that lead into the soaring great room.

“The home is timeless in design, not bowing to the whims of fad architecture or designs that seem to cycle every five to 10 years,” Beckwith says.

Instead, the interiors emphasize craftsmanship: elegant woodwork, marble finishes, stately stone fireplaces, and walls of windows framing views of Mount Mansfield and Spruce Peak.

Designed for both entertaining and multigenerational living, the home’s layout includes a sun-filled kitchen, breakfast room, screened porch with fireplace, and lower-level recreation space with a gym, spa area, sauna, and access to an outdoor hot tub.

A two-bedroom in-law suite offers privacy for guests, while a separate guest wing houses four additional bedrooms and three full baths. Upstairs, the primary suite is a retreat of its own, complete with a sitting room, balcony, dressing room with cedar closet, and adjoining office.

But the location may be the most compelling chapter in this storybook estate.

“The Edson Hill neighborhood is one of the most desirable in Stowe due to its mid-Mountain Road location, allowing easy access to both the village and the ski resort,” Beckwith says.

From Eden, it’s minutes to Stowe’s shops, restaurants, breweries, golf courses, farmers market, and the recreation path—yet the property still feels worlds away.

“There are very few estate properties in Stowe boasting a location like this,” Beckwith adds. With privacy, views, and enduring design, Eden lives up to its name and offers a lifestyle that promises to be just as magical as it looks.
