Wallingford, CT Homeowners Can Expect a Cooler, Drier Fall, Says The Old Farmer’s Almanac

Autumn will feel a little sharper in Wallingford for folks.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac projects that Connecticut will see cooler-than-normal temperatures and drier skies this fall, setting the stage for brisk mornings, earlier sweater weather, and a bright foliage season.

At the same time, Wallingford is gaining national recognition for its housing market. The New England suburb ranked No. 18 on the Realtor.com®  list of 2025 Hottest ZIP Codes of 2025, highlighting how demand has surged in this central Connecticut town.

Connecticut forecast: brisk days, brighter leaves

The Almanac places Connecticut in the “cool and dry” category in its Fall Forecast 2025 State Breakdown. For the broader Northeast region, September will average 59°F, about 2 degrees below normal, with 3.5 inches of rainfall. Expect a mix of showers, sunny breaks, and a touch of late warmth before finishing the month on a cooler note.

October’s outlook calls for an average temperature of 46°F, 3 degrees below normal, with rainfall dropping to just 2.5 inches. That combination of crisp air and limited precipitation could make for especially vivid foliage. For Wallingford homeowners, the forecast points to drier weekends for fall activities and fewer worries about soggy leaf piles or flooding rains.

This New England pattern diverges from much of the country, where warmer-than-normal fall weather is expected to stretch across the West, South, and even into the Atlantic Corridor.

Wallingford’s market is moving at record speed

Wallingford is one of the most competitive markets on the list. Homes in ZIP 06492 sold in just 29 days on average, compared with a national pace that’s more than 30 days slower. Listings attracted 7.2× more views per property than the typical U.S. home, one of the strongest demand signals in this year’s rankings.

The median listing price in Wallingford was $394,000, slightly below the U.S. median of $441,000 back in June . That balance of affordability and desirability is a key draw. Buyers priced out of Connecticut’s coastal markets or Boston suburbs are finding value in towns like Wallingford, which offer strong schools, a small-town feel, and proximity to both Hartford and New Haven.

Wallingford’s hot streak is part of a broader Connecticut surge. Trumbull (No. 7, $666,000 median) and South Windsor (No. 9, $406,000 median) also ranked in the Top 10 this year. Together, these markets underscore how central and southwestern Connecticut are becoming magnets for buyers seeking suburban comfort within commuting distance of major job hubs.

Seasonal tasks for a cozy Connecticut home

With cooler weather on the way, September is the time for Wallingford homeowners to get their properties ready.

Ryan Williams of 128 Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electric advises repairing walkway cracks now, before icy conditions make them dangerous. Chris Granger of Sears Home Services recommends pressure washing siding, which can reveal problem areas while boosting curb appeal. And Lindsey Pasieka of ConsumerSafety.org warns homeowners not to skip chimney cleanings before lighting the first fire of the season.

Other simple steps include sealing drafty windows to cut down on heating bills and changing HVAC filters to improve efficiency.

For a complete list of seasonal prep, the Realtor.com September home maintenance checklist is a handy guide.
