The Old Farmer’s Almanac is calling for a crisp autumn in New York, where cooler-than-normal temperatures and drier conditions will set the stage for colorful foliage.

For Webster homeowners, this means sweater weather will arrive early and that seasonal projects should be planned for before the bitter coldness of winter really settles in the area.

At the same time, the town has a new claim to fame—its housing market has been named one the 50 Hottest ZIP Codes of 2025 according to Realtor.com®, highlighting strong buyer demand in the greater Rochester area.

New York forecast: cooler days, brighter leaves

The Almanac’s state breakdown places New York in the “cool and dry” category for Fall 2025.

In the Northeast region, September will average 59°F, about 2° below normal, with 3.5 inches of precipitation. October will be even chillier, averaging 46°F—3° below usual—with just 2.5 inches of rain. Expect scattered showers, short warm spells, and a brisk finish to the season.

This cool, dry pattern aligns with much of the Northeast and Appalachians, while standing in contrast to regions like the Southeast and Texas, where above-normal warmth will linger well into fall.

Webster among America’s hottest ZIP codes

Webster’s real estate market is heating up even as the temperatures cool. ZIP code 14580 ranked No. 36 on the Realtor.com list of the Hottest ZIP Codes of 2025. Homes here sold for a median of $411,000, spent just 34 days on the market, and drew 4.4× more views per property than the U.S. average.

Other New York markets also made the list, showing the state’s broad housing demand. Webster joined Rochester’s metro neighbor Bexley, OH (ZIP 43209) in the top 10, with New Jersey’s Wayne (ZIP 07470) and Connecticut’s Trumbull (ZIP 06611) ranking high nearby in the Northeast corridor.

The strong showing of Northeast ZIPs underscores a national trend: buyers are willing to move quickly in markets that offer relative affordability compared with pricier coastal metros.

September homeowner must-dos

For Webster homeowners, September is the perfect time to prep for the chilly season ahead. The Realtor.com September home maintenance guide offers a few key tasks:

Ryan Williams, general manager of 128 Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electric, advises inspecting walkways for cracks before winter arrives. “Fix walkway and entryway areas before slippery weather can cause a tripping or falling accident”.

Chris Granger, vice president of Sears Home Services, suggests giving siding a thorough cleaning. “September is a great time to use a pressure washer to clean it up—and inspect for more serious problems before winter comes”.

Other timely chores include sealing windows to cut down on drafts, sweeping chimneys before the first fire of the season, and changing HVAC filters to improve energy efficiency.
