The Old Farmer’s Almanac has released its Fall 2025 weather forecast, and Kansas homeowners should prepare for a season that skews warmer and drier than usual.

While some regions of the country will be cooling down early, Wichita residents can expect extra sunshine stretching into October.

Adding to the good news: Wichita has also landed on the 50 Hottest ZIP Codes of 2025 according to Realtor.com®, underscoring its growing appeal among homebuyers seeking value in the Midwest. So, overall, it's a good time to live or move to Wichita!

Kansas forecast: a warm start, then closer to normal

According to the Almanac’s state-by-state breakdown, Kansas is set for a “warm and dry” fall in 2025.

In the broader Heartland region, September will average 69°F—slightly above normal—with only 1.5 inches of rain, two inches less than usual. October will trend closer to typical patterns, averaging 57°F with 3 inches of rain. Residents should expect sunny stretches, brief cool spells, and light storms mid-month, before temperatures dip heading into November.

This weather stands in contrast to cooler conditions in the Northeast and Midwest, while aligning more closely with other warm, dry regions like Texas and Oklahoma. For Wichita homeowners, it means an extended outdoor season and fewer interruptions from rainfall.

Wichita joins the nation’s hottest ZIP codes

The heat isn’t just in the weather—Wichita’s housing market is also gaining attention. ZIP code 67212 ranked No. 33 on Realtor.com’s list of the 50 Hottest ZIP Codes of 2025. Homes here sold at a median price of $267,000 and moved quickly, averaging just 31 days on market. Listings in this area also drew 2.8× more views per property than the national average, signaling significant buyer demand.

Nearby, Council Bluffs, Iowa (ZIP 51503) and Jefferson City, Missouri (ZIP 65109) also made the list. Council Bluffs, ranked No. 28, recorded a median price of $302,000 with homes selling in 27 days, while Jefferson City came in at No. 20, with a median of $363,000 and a 28-day selling pace.

Together, these rankings show the strength of demand across the central U.S., where affordability, space, and lifestyle continue to drive buyer interest even in a higher-rate environment.

September maintenance tips for Wichita homes

With warm weather lingering, September is the perfect time for Wichita homeowners to get ahead on seasonal upkeep. Realtor.com’s fall home maintenance checklist emphasizes quick projects that can prevent bigger headaches later.

Chris Granger, vice president of Sears Home Services, suggests giving siding a deep clean after the summer sun. “September is a great time to use a pressure washer to clean it up—and inspect for more serious problems before winter comes”.

Ryan Williams, general manager of 128 Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electric, advises checking walkways now: “Fix walkway and entryway areas before slippery weather can cause a tripping or falling accident”.

Other must-do tasks include resealing windows to prevent winter drafts, swapping out air filters for better HVAC efficiency, and servicing lawn equipment before storing it for the season.
