A dog rescued from a Pasadena, CA, house fire was reunited this week with the firefighters who saved him from the burning home.

Milo, a 6-year-old Shetland sheepdog, was home alone at his family's Michillinda Avenue property on Sept. 9 when neighbors called 911 to report smoke coming from the home.

The 911 dispatcher heard a dog barking in the background and alerted firefighters that an animal was likely in the home.

By the time firefighters arrived at the address, Milo had been trapped inside in the smoke for eight minutes and was unconscious. Firefighter Jessica Johnson said she found Milo under a table and carried him outside.

Pasadena Humane Animal Control administered oxygen to him, and after about five minutes, he regained consciousness.

Johnson, who is a dog owner, said the incident made her tear up.

"I shed a little bit of a tear, but, you know, you've got to keep it professional and continue to do my job, which I did. I did my job, and it came out successful, came out rewarding," she told KABC-TV.

The American Humane Society recommends pet owners put a decal on their front window to alert firefighters to the number and kind of animals inside. This can speed up the rescue process in a fire.

Milo's owner, Letitia Gaxiola, praised the quick-thinking firefighters.

"Acting as quickly as they did, risking their lives for somebody else, and trying for it to be the best outcome as possible," she told the outlet. "I'm forever, forever grateful. They're truly heroes."
