HGTV Star Jonathan Knight Addresses ‘Crashers’ Hiatus and Excites Fans With New ‘Close to Home’ Filming Location

New Kids on the Block singer Jonathan Knight has good news for fans of HGTV’s “Crashers” reboot—there’s lots more home renovation content to come, despite the show’s hiatus.

The pop star turned restoration expert, 57, shared a preview of what’s to come for the series in an Aug. 27 Instagram post.

Alongside a behind-the-scenes video of what appeared to be a work-in-progress project, Knight confirmed, “All new episodes of ‘Crashers’ coming 2027.”

The news comes after the season—which had planned to include 13 episodes—seemingly went weeks without a new installment to follow the Aug. 11 air date of Season 1, episode 11.

Knight’s comment section quickly filled up with notes from viewers across the country, suggesting where he and the HGTV crew should take their talents next.

When an Instagram user asked the host to provide “any clues” hinting at where the show will film next, Knight indicated that the work is already underway in “a new state.”

So far, the newest season of “Crashers” has filmed in Colorado and California.

The Boston native implied the show may be New England-bound, in an Aug. 29 post.

“Love filming so close to home and being able to pop in, even for a quick overnight!” Knight captioned a dimly lit image of a warm-hued door at his own Essex, MA, barn, adding, “My barn feels ready for Halloween year round.”

The farmhouse enthusiast’s barn is a restored 1700s-era structure, located on a 7-acre plot Knight resides on with his husband, Harley Rodriguez. The parcel is also home to a garden and an array of farm animals, Knight shared with the Boston Herald in 2019.

The “Crashers” teasers continued in an additional Sept. 5 post, in which Knight shared a photo of himself smiling at a blurred-out monitor, presumably on set.

“Changing people’s lives one crash at a time,” he wrote in the caption. “Thank you to all our homeowners who take the leap and put your trust in us.”

The update also hinted at the production timing, as he added, “Heading home for the weekend… but will be back at it on Tuesday. Keep your eyes open. I just may be in your town or city.”

Fans flocked to the comments once again to note they'd be keeping their eyes peeled for Knight and crew when making trips to their local Home Depots.

This iteration of “Crashers” comes 15 years after the original franchise ended its run but retains the same premise; the host of the series ambushes unsuspecting homeowners in common places, such as a hardware store or coffee shop, and offers them a free renovation of the space of their choosing.

Of course, the gifted project has some stipulations.

Homeowners must agree to let the 72-hour renovation start immediately, and they need to leave their home for the entirety of the three days. They also relinquish any say in the design of the renovation.

In an exclusive Realtor.com® interview, Knight admitted that he felt some hesitation around the ambush style interactions.

“I was like, ‘Wait a minute. You want me to walk up to strangers while they’re shopping around, minding their business, and then here comes me with two cameras, a sound man, producers, everything, and strike up a conversation?’” he said.

Despite his uncertainty, he grew to enjoy his newfound role.

“I always say you have to say yes to things that scare you and then they become less scary,” Knight continued. “Now I’m just walking through a store like, ‘Hey, what are you doing?’”

Surprisingly, he has found that most of the people he approaches are very interested in the arrangement.

“A lot of people when I walk up, I’m like, ‘Do you want me to renovate this place?’ And they’re like, ‘Yes!’ I’m like, ‘Wait, you don’t even know what the deal is or anything. You cannot say yes just because you know who I am,’” he explained. “I’m like, ‘No, you’re saying yes too fast.’”

Before landing his “Crashers” gig, Knight became an HGTV fan-favorite as the host of “Farmhouse Fixer,” which aired for three seasons before its June 2025 cancellation.

Although he’s busy juggling home renovation projects and managing his own sprawling farm, Knight still has time to perform with New Kids on the Block, who are currently headlining a Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM.
