The California home where Martin Short's daughter, Katherine, died has been listed for sale, just five months after her death.

Katherine died on Feb. 23 at the age of 42 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the Hollywood Hills property, following a lifelong battle with depression and mental illness.

Short later paid tribute to his daughter, describing the pain he felt over the loss of his daughter—while comparing the loss to that of his wife, Nancy, who died of cancer in 2010 when she was 58.

“It's been a nightmare for the family, but the understanding [is] that mental health and cancer, like my wife’s, are both diseases, and sometimes with diseases, they are terminal,” the actor said during an appearance on CBS News.

“And my daughter fought for a long time with extreme mental health, borderline personality disorder, other things, and did the best she could, until she couldn’t."

He added that he hoped his daughter's death would help to shine a light on mental illness, noting that he wanted to bring it "out of the shadows" and encourage people to speak more openly about it.

He wanted to help people to stop "hiding from the word 'suicide'" and instead "accept that this can be the last stage of an illness," Short explained.

Katherine had moved into her Hollywood home in 2014, when she purchased it for $1 million through a trust, according to property records. It was brought to the market on July 15 with an asking price of $1.79 million, as first reported by the Daily Mail.

Situated in L.A.'s Beachwood Canyon neighborhood, the home is described in its listing—which is held by Steven Moritz of Sotheby's International Realty—as offering "the perfect blend of privacy, character, and serene canyon living."

The home spans 1,836 square feet and is described in its listing as an "enchanting" dwelling that perfectly blends "privacy, character, and serene canyon living."

Upon entering the abode, guests are greeted with a charming living area with a cozy fireplace and large windows.

"The spacious living room is anchored by a wood-burning fireplace and filled with natural light, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for everyday living and entertaining," the listing reads.

The dining room boasts a sparkling chandelier and access to the exterior through chic French doors.

The bathrooms exude charm thanks to their patterned wallpapers.

"The primary suite encompasses the entire upper level, offering a peaceful sanctuary complete with two walk-in closets and treetop views," the listing notes.

The home also comes with a sauna and an art studio.

"Adding to its rare appeal are a backup generator for peace of mind, an attached garage with direct access into the home, a detached sauna tucked into the landscape, and a separate artist studio retreat perched on the hillside perfect as a creative space, private office, or quiet escape," the listing reads.

The home is located about a 40-minute drive from both of Short's Los Angeles homes. He has owned his primary residence in the Golden State since 1987, when he picked up the picturesque Pacific Palisades property for $1.33 million.

That property, which is located in an area that was significantly affected by the California wildfires in January 2025, survived the blazes.

In 2024, he bought another L.A. dwelling—this one in Mandeville Canyon—for $2.3 million.

Katherine was the eldest of three children Short shared with his late wife, Nancy. Her body was found at the home after the actor called a friend to check in on his daughter, having grown concerned over not hearing from her.

When the friend arrived to Katherine's home, she found a note on her bedroom door, which was locked. She phoned the police, who then entered the room and found Katherine dead.

Katherine's family issued a statement expressing their heartbreak over her death.

"It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short,” the statement read. “The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time.

"Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.”
