Los Angeles Clippers player Nicolas Batum is preparing to cut ties with North Carolina for good after placing his Charlotte-area mansion on the market for $6 million—just under six years after he was waived by local team the Hornets.

Batum, 37, who is originally from France, purchased the lakefront pile for $3.95 million in September 2016, just over a year after he was traded to the Charlotte-based squad from the Portland Trail Blazers.

However, it turns out his ties to the dwelling would outlast his membership on the team, which dropped him in November 2020. Soon after, he headed to the West Coast, where he signed with the Clippers.

Now, it appears Batum is ready to sever his remaining connection to North Carolina by offloading his Mediterranean-style abode, which was built in 2007 and is described by listing agent Michelle Rhyne with Premier Sotheby’s International Realty as feeling "more like a private resort than a traditional residence."

“I've never really seen anything like that around here. It's a really nice house. It's definitely very grand. All the rooms are large," Rhyne adds.

And it seems that the basketball pro may be in line to score a three-pointer with his listing, which has already been updated to show that the property is under offer—less than a week after it was brought to the market.

Batum, who shares two children with wife Lily, and his family have not lived in the 10,320-square-foot home full time since the two-time Olympic medalist was traded from the Hornets in 2020, although Rhyne notes that they have continued to use the property as a vacation retreat.

“I think they were here for a month last year,” she says. “They come back and spend some time in the summer and his offseason.”

The three-story house has six bedrooms and six full bathrooms with an elevator to go between all of the living spaces. Each of the rooms are large and have a balcony and walk-in closet.

“The primary suite is really big. They have four large closets, two water closets, they each have their own vanity, and then they've got the wet bar in there,” Rhyne says. “[There is a] very large sitting area in there too and it overlooks the lake and the pool.”

There are a total of three wet bars in the house, just some of the many details Rhyne says make it special.

Perhaps one of the most distinctive areas of the home is Batum's dedicated "shoe room," which can be seen in the listing photos stuffed to the brim with neatly organized sneakers in an array of colors and styles, all of which are carefully lined up in pairs along custom shelves.

Rhyne notes that the basement space was originally meant to be used as a full suite with a bathroom and a closet, but was transformed by Batum to house his impressive footwear collection.

“It is a suite with a full bath and a large closet, but he uses it as his shoe room,” she explains.

The kitchen is open to the main living spaces and has high-end appliances with thick countertops and darker wood cabinets.

“The layout was very thought out for entertainment because it's so large,” Rhyne explains. “The living area to the bar, then you've got the kitchen and then you just go right out to the veranda or the pool. It is really an ideal space.”

The architectural details throughout the house set it apart from others.

“All the ceilings are a work of art instead of just a drop ceiling or drywall ceiling,” she says, adding they are impressing potential buyers, with one person standing in the dining room just admiring them. “[The home] is very grand and very spacious but it doesn't feel overwhelming.”

Rhyne’s favorite part of the house is the huge outdoor veranda with its wood ceiling. This large area is on the same level as the indoor kitchen and main living space.

“[The home is] three stories, but the entertainment level is still on the main floor. The architect and the builder did a great job of making that a priority because buyers don't want to have to go downstairs to the basement to go out to the pool,” she says.

There are actually two pool levels with a waterfall going between them.

“You have the pool and then there are stairs and you can go down to the plunge pool, which is what the Batums call the kids pool,” Rhyne says, adding the smaller pool is not very deep so the kids would play there.

The plunge pool is accessible from the basement level of the house, where there is also a recreation room, theater, wine room, and more.

From that level, you can access the 1.35 acres of yard with a basketball court. The land goes all the way to Lake Norman, where there is a private dock.

“It's hard to find property as private as this on the lake. There just aren't a lot of properties that have those lot sizes like that,” Rhyne explains. “All houses right there in a row were kind of all built at the same time and they're all of a large caliber. They just don't come on the market very often.”
