Rare $18M Salmon-Pink 1938 Colonial Listing Hits the Palm Beach Market

In a town dominated by traditional Spanish architecture, 198 Via Marina breaks all the rules. Drenched in vivid salmon pink, this 1938 Georgian-Colonial estate is a rare, vibrant departure from Palm Beach’s classic design landscape.

Located at 198 Via Marina, the 1938 residence has four bedrooms and was recently listed for $18 million. The property is represented by Jim McCann of Premier Estate Properties, Inc.-Palm Beach.

The timing of this eccentric home's construction was no accident. By the mid-1930s, Palm Beach had turned away from Mediterranean Revival designs toward Georgian and Colonial-style homes, and this house landed squarely in that shift.

At 4,660 square feet, the house includes a primary suite, a separate guest suite, two additional bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms across three levels linked by an elevator.

Every room of the house feels like its own independent space. The entry hall is a soft celadon green, its walls divided into panels and banded in white classical ornament and round medallions. Parquet floors are bold in rust and black hues, and geometric patterns repeat throughout the home in its various tile, marble and wood finishes.

A curved staircase with white wrought-iron scrollwork rises from the foyer, a second set of stairs serves the kitchen wing, and built-in bookshelves line the library.

A Barbie-pink formal dining room comes with a crystal chandelier, and the kitchen is outfitted with modern appliances and extensive custom cabinetry.

Beyond the formal rooms are a gallery, a sunroom and a den, along with a 34-foot terrace that runs along the west side. Upstairs, the primary suite has its own balcony and a sitting room, and a covered balcony spans the rear facade.

Unusually for a town built on sand, a 1,802-square-foot basement sits below, holding a gym and air-conditioned storage. A detached office and a three-car garage occupy the rear of the lot.

Outdoors, an inground pool anchors a nearly half-acre lot on a leafy street that's just two blocks from the water.

The asking price marks a considerable leap from the last time the home traded hands in April 2021 for $2.1 million, but the listing hints at why. Rather than leading with the house, it emphasizes the parcel's notably high elevation and location, describing the property as a canvas for a new custom residence and pointing to its inherent land value.

In a market where Palm Beach buyers regularly pay for the sand rather than the structure, the 1938 house may be the least of what is on offer.
