‘Prominent Silicon Valley Billionaire’ Snaps Up $14 Million 900-Acre Washington Ranch in Secretive Off-Market Deal
A "prominent Silicon Valley billionaire" has become the latest tech tycoon to throw their cowboy hat in the ranch owner ring after purchasing an "astonishing" 900-acre Washington estate that had last been on the market for $14.25 million.
The off-market deal, which was handled by Pend Oreille Realty, has been shrouded in secrecy, with a press release noting that the buyer has requested their "identity and the terms of the transaction remain strictly confidential."
While the details surrounding the sale of the Cusick, WA, property, known as Buck Quarter Ranch, have been kept a closely guarded secret, Pend Oreille Realty owner Cody Abbott noted that the buyer is the latest in a line of high-profile businessmen seeking homes with "serious defensibility" and "off-grid resources."
"Buyers in the tech community are increasingly focused on properties with serious defensibility, independent water resources, and robust off-grid capabilities,” he said.
"Buck Quarter Ranch stands out as one of the best examples of that anywhere in the Pacific Northwest, offering unmatched resilience and autonomy."

The real estate office compared the deal to Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg's purchase of a sprawling Hawaii estate, where he is rumored to have built a jaw-dropping compound across an extraordinary 2,300 acres of land.
"The buyer specifically sought a highly private, self-sustaining estate, a category that has gained increased attention in tech circles following Mark Zuckerberg’s well known Hawaiian compound
and the broader interest in long-term, resilient properties," the press release noted.
While Buck Quarter Ranch doesn't offer the same impressive beach access or tropical climate, it does have many other amenities on offer, including—according to its website—an enormous 12,000-square-foot main residence, two placid lakes, 40 acres of fenced pasture, and 360 acres of woodland.
A wealth of outdoor activities can be enjoyed on the property, which also features an equestrian center, a spa pavilion that offers "year-round swimming and relaxation," and a shooting range.
What's more, while it does not offer the tropical heat that beach lovers might prioritize, the property's website noted that the ranch does enjoy "on average, 174 sunny days per year," while also enjoying "four distinct seasons," courtesy of its "perch on a high plateau."
"The average rainfall ranges from just 24 to 30 inches per year with warm summers routinely reaching the mid to high 80s while the evenings are cool and comfortable," the property description continued.
"Winters are equally as active with reliable snow coverage and average low of 17 degrees. The climate and geography are perfectly aligned for hiking, equestrian sports, off-road vehicle tours (ATVs, snowmobiles, etc.), biking, and fishing (both in lake and the active water rivers nearby)."
A total of "seven distinct structures" make up the main living spaces, which are grouped into two separate compounds, effectively turning the ranch into its own small town.
In addition to the main residence, there is also a 2,800-square-foot guesthouse, a 1,300-square-foot caretaker's house, and even an on-site shop "with several outbuildings and equipment shelters."
"The main house, spa pavilion, and guest log cabin make up one compound, while the guesthouse, caretaker’s house, and helipad occupy their own discreet areas around the lake, with the shop in its own corner of the property," the website stated.
"This allows for numerous guest and residence options with varying degrees of detachment."

The main residence on the property is described as a "masterpiece of high lodge style," offering five bedrooms, an expansive living area, a huge wrap-around deck, and a heated four-car garage.
Only the highest quality materials were used in the construction of the property, including the "kiln dried Montana logs" that were used to build the main structure.
"Intricately stencil-cut railings wrap the exterior decks and interior staircases and mezzanines, while Venetian plaster adorns all interior dividing walls for a feeling of warmth and history that complements the house’s wooden mass," the description noted.
"Stunning imported chandeliers and custom secondary fixtures illuminate every space, while discreet lighting systems emphasize the architecture and construction detail and afford ideal conditions for all manners of display."
Offering the very finest in self-sustaining, off-grid living, the property is equipped with its own water supply, thanks to its two lakes, providing the "autonomy" that the new buyer is said to have been seeking.
"The ranch’s appeal lies in its sophisticated infrastructure and natural resources, which enable true self-sufficiency," Pend Oreille Realty noted. "The property features include multiple natural water sources, advanced infrastructure, and extensive agricultural potential, all designed to support autonomous operation for prolonged periods.
"These features, combined with its massive, nearly 900-acre footprint that offers ultimate seclusion and security, were key drivers of this acquisition."
Although this deal was handled off market, with the final sale price kept under wraps, the property has previously been listed publicly, with records showing that it was put on the market in 2023 with an asking price of $14.25 million.
However, a website that was previously set up to showcase the historic estate had a separate asking price of $21.9 million.
The property is understood to have last been purchased in 2004 by its late former owner who spent years developing it as a vacation retreat, having first happened upon it in a magazine "when he was on a plane," according to Mansion Global, which reported that he bought it sight unseen.
Its sale was handled by the former owner's estate, with records indicating that the deal closed on Nov. 20, eight months after it was last listed.
According to Pend Oreille Realty, the anonymous buyer "intends to further invest in and enhance the ranch's sustainability systems," showing a true commitment to the "long-term environmental preservation and resilience of the property."
