"Modern Family" star Ariel Winter has revealed she has a very familiar new roommate: her on-screen brother Nolan Gould, whom she is now living with in a rented Los Angeles home, four years after she relocated from California to Tennessee with her former partner, Luke Benward.

Winter, 28, who played Alex Dunphy in the hit sitcom—the middle child of three siblings in the fictional Dunphy family—revealed that she and Gould, 27, have upgraded their relationship from on-screen brother and sister to real-life roommates after she began spending more time in L.A.

"It's funny because I spend more time out here now and I rent a house with Nolan," Winter revealed in an interview with People magazine.

She went on to joke that, while she is routinely asked by fans whether "Modern Family" might one day get a reboot, it feels to her and Gould like that has already happened because they see each other just as much now as they did when they were shooting the show, which came to an end in 2020.

"People ask me about a 'Modern Family' reboot, but Nolan and I are real roommates now. So it's like we're having our own little 'Modern Family' reboot, but it's just the two of us living together. So I see him every day," she said.

But she confessed that their real-life dynamic would likely make for some very entertaining viewing.

"I'm not gonna lie, when we sit there at night and we watch, like, 'Temptation Island' together, it's pretty hilarious. So we have thought about it. We're just like, people would find this really funny," she said.

In addition to being roommates, she revealed that she and Gould are "best friends."

"I'm extremely close to Nolan. He plays my little brother, and he and I are still best friends," she said.

Winter and Gould spent 11 seasons filming the hit show—with actress Sarah Hyland starring as their older sister, while Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell played their parents.

The show was a smash hit, however Winter admitted to People that she had no idea just how big of a success it would become, joking that she initially signed on to the project because she was excited at the chance to work with comedian Ed O'Neill, having watched him starring in "Married ... With Children" as Al Bundy.

"I was 11 when it started. I don't think I had any idea of if it was going to be successful or not," she said. "I was just like, 'Oh, awesome, I got a job.' What I was so excited for was to get the chance to work with Al Bundy."

"But once the show started, it was an immediate hit, and it was so exciting to have that opportunity. And being on the same show for so long? I feel like that doesn't really happen anymore," she added.

Speaking about the show's ending, she noted that it was very difficult to say goodbye to the cast, whom she referred to as her family.

“It was hard. We really were like a real family. It was weird knowing it would just be over, and I wouldn't get to see everybody all the time anymore. It was like, 'Wait, yeah, wait, we're not going to be together on Monday?' So on the one hand, I didn't want it to end, but at the same time I was ready to start something new as an adult," she explained.

Two years after the show ended, Winter relocated to Nashville, where she purchased a sprawling $2.9 million abode in the College Grove neighborhood in May 2022.

She later opened up to E! about her decision to move, noting that she felt like Nashville was the perfect place to start a new "season" of her life, despite admitting that she wasn't initially confident about the relocation.

"I was just nervous," she said. "And then this opportunity presented itself and I was like, 'You know what? I'm in a season of change, and I'm really trying to heal and grow and evolve, and maybe this is it. Maybe this is what I need to propel myself forward.'"

However, it appears that the actress has toyed with moving back to California full time in recent years, with property records showing that she listed the four-bedroom dwelling for $3.1 million in February 2025, a few months before she and "Dumplin'" actor Benward split.

That original asking price was discounted several times over the following months, eventually dropping to $2.59 million in May 2025, before the dwelling was taken off the market altogether.

Winter only confirmed the news of their split this month, writing in an Instagram comment that the two remain "best friends," while adding that they are continuing to co-parent their dog together.

"He's still one of my best friends, a great human being and a great pup coparent," she wrote. "Just because sometimes people aren't meant to be doesn't mean you don't still appreciate the time spent and retain the friendship you shared. Still a big Luke fan over here!!!"
