EXCLUSIVE: ‘King of Hollywood’ Douglas Fairbanks’ Former Beachfront Paradise Sells for $16 Million
A sprawling California abode that once belonged to the "King of Hollywood," Douglas Fairbanks, has sold for $15.7 million, marking only the fifth time it has changed hands in its illustrious 103-year history.
Fairbanks, who passed away at the age of 56 in 1939, was thrust into the spotlight when he appeared in a series of silent movies, including "The Mark of Zorro," "Robin Hood," and "The Thief of Bagdad."
The Hollywood A-lister made history as a founder of the United Artists and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and he even hosted the very first Academy Awards in 1929.
During the height of his career, Fairbanks, whose longtime home was built in 1922, became renowned as much as a "bon vivant and a host" as he was a star of stage and screen—regularly gathering and entertaining Hollywood's glitterati at his extraordinary abode.
When he died, Fairbanks left behind an incredible collection of assets, including trust funds, personal property, and real estate, specifically his iconic Santa Monica mansion, where he passed away.

Now, the home, which is located on Santa Monica's storied Gold Coast, has been purchased by another lucky buyer, who will gain not only an elegant dwelling, but also access to one of the world's most extraordinary stretches of beach.
The property, which was sold by Colette Stevens of Pardee Properties, perfectly blends elegance and modern coastal luxury and features 60 feet of coveted beach frontage, according to a press release shared with Realtor.com®.
The home, which is situated on a 0.26-acre lot, has four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. It spans nearly 4,000 square feet.
While it has undergone numerous updates and renovations since Fairbanks' ownership, the property retains much of its historical charm.
Upon entering the property, guests are greeted with a sun-splashed living area, where the sound of the ocean can be heard.
The large glass doors here open to a private backyard with a resort-style pool, lush green lawn, and multiple dining areas.
Adjacent to the living space is a large chef's kitchen that has been redesigned with marble countertops, state-of-the art appliances, and a casual dining nook.

The dining area is the epitome of elegance as it boasts a large wooden table, modern overhead lighting, and wood-beamed ceilings.
Elsewhere on the main floor, there are two guest suites and an elevator.
There is another guest suite upstairs, and it comes with a private bathroom.
Also on this upper level is the primary suite, which includes "a tranquil haven with a cozy sitting area, spa-inspired bathroom featuring dual vanities, soaking tub, and walk-in rain shower," the press release states.
Outside, there is a kitchen equipped with a built-in grill and wood-fired pizza oven.
"Step onto the private ocean-view terrace and take in panoramic coastal vistas and postcard-perfect sunsets," the description added.
"Blending Hollywood heritage with sophisticated seaside living, this re-envisioned oceanfront villa is more than a home it's a rare piece of California's coastal legacy, situated on one of the most substantial beachfront parcels on the Santa Monica coast."
