A few blocks off the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles lies this 2,518-square-foot home with a serious architectural pedigree.

Lloyd Wright—son of one of the world’s most famous architects, Frank Lloyd Wright—designed the home, referred to as the Henry O. Bollman Residence. He conceptualized the house after collaborating with his father on the Hollyhock House, also in L.A. This was the younger Wright’s second independent commission.

The standout residence, completed in 1922, is on Los Angeles’ Historic-Cultural Monument list. The home is available for $3,198,000.

“Here we are, 100 years after it was built, and so much of it is intact,” says listing agent Nathaniel Cole, of Modern California House.

Among the home’s preserved architectural features are patterned-concrete blocks and a nod to Mesoamerican architecture.

Some of its hallmark features include a private patio; four, light-filled bedrooms; and two vintage-inspired paths, according to the listing.

The sellers have occupied the home since 2014, when they purchased it for $1.9 million, property records show.

“The systems are all in good shape,” Cole notes. “It’s really just a move-in-ready house. Often you have a house like this, but it’s a lot to take on. This is a really buttoned-up, cared-for house.”

Previous to the current owners, interior designer Mimi London owned the home. Her design work on the space landed the house on two Architectural Digest covers, in 1987 and 1996. According to the 1987 article, when she purchased the home, it had been poorly cared for. She removed the screened-in porch, which was not part of the original design, and restored the rest of the house.

Overall, the property’s design DNA is evident.

“It’s impossible to not see [Lloyd] through the lens of his father,” Cole says. “This house shows him going in his own direction.”

Set on an 8,100-square-foot lot, the landscaping is equally enticing and features elements of Wright’s original landscape plan.

“There’s some really massive grouping of large birds of paradise,” Cole says. “They’ve definitely put a good amount of effort into [the garden].”

The landscape also features a large trumpet vine and two tall palms.

Tucked into L.A.’s Sunset Square neighborhood, the home’s locale provides the best of two worlds.

“It’s filled with older homes, but you’re just blocks from the Sunset Strip,” Cole says. “You’ve got all these Hollywood tour buses going down Hollywood Boulevard, and then it’s calm [where the house is]. You’re right in the mix. It’s walkable, in a way you don’t typically think of in L.A.”

Will only architecture lovers spring for this home? Or will it be a Hollywood star?

“There are people who have called from all over the country for it,” Cole reports. “It lends itself well to sort of an avant-garde character living in it. Someone who has a unique personality is drawn to these houses. People you see with Frank Lloyd Wright houses—they understand the importance of preserving.”
