Inside Joe Burrow’s $7.5 Million Cincinnati Retreat as He’s Sidelined by Toe Injury and Replaced With Quarterback Jake Browning

Cincinnati Bengals star Joe Burrow's 2025 NFL season got off to a rough start after the seasoned quarterback suffered a toe injury in the team's second game that will see him sidelined for at least three months as he undergoes surgery.

Burrow, 28, was helped off the field during the second quarter of his team's matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 14, before being replaced by backup quarterback Jake Browning, who managed to shake off any nerves prompted by his teammate's injury to lead the Bengals to a 31-27 victory.

After Burrow left the field, it was revealed that the NFL star is suffering from a Grade 3 turf toe injury, with NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reporting the following day that the quarterback has elected to undergo surgery—and is in the process of deciding which medical experts he'd like to handle the procedure.

Unfortunately, Burrow, who hails from Ames, IA, and the Bengals are no stranger to this kind of hiccup.

Burrow has a long history of injuries that have plagued him since before his professional career began, dating back to his time as a college student and NCAA star at Ohio State.

Still, the team appears to have found a solid backup in the form of Browning, 29, who joined the Bengals in 2021 when he signed on to the practice squad.

It's thought that Browning will now move up to become the Bengals' starting quarterback while Burrow undergoes treatment for turf toe—which is "an injury in your big toe joint when ligaments, tendons, and soft tissues in the joint stretch or tear," according to the Cleveland Clinic.

"It’s a common injury among football players and athletes who sprint or jump," the medical center notes. "Turf toe usually gets better with rest, ice and over-the-counter pain relievers. Severe turf toe injuries may need surgery."

While the injury may not sound significant when described on paper, former Detroit Lions star Dan Orlovsky told ESPN that turf toe was one of the "most painful injuries" he has ever experienced, having suffered a similar situation to Burrow back at the height of his own NFL career.

"I suffered a turf toe injury during the 2007 preseason when I was with the Lions, and it was one of the most painful injuries I've ever had in my life," he wrote. "It happened the same way as Burrow's injury—I got rolled up on. The two bones split apart, and the toe wouldn't flex. And when it did, the pain was excruciating."

Orlovsky noted that he did not have surgery to treat his injury—and as a result still suffers from symptoms to this day, something that Burrow is no doubt hoping to avoid by going under the knife.

As yet, it remains unclear when Burrow will have his operation, however he will no doubt be chomping at the bit to start his treatment so he can return to the field as soon as possible—with the NFL website suggesting he could be back in action by Week 15, when the Bengals will face the Baltimore Ravens.

Until then, the quarterback will likely retreat to his $7.5 million Cincinnati home, which he purchased in 2023, three years after joining the Bengals as the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft.

The property features four bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms, and sits on a lush 3-acre parcel of land inside a luxurious gated community.

Burrow's home is surrounded by sweeping views of the Ohio River, stands of trees, and a white, wooden fence.

However, the NFL star's sanctuary was invaded in December 2024, when the property was broken into by a gang of thieves who stole an estimated $300,000 worth of goods from the dwelling—including Burrow's "JB9" and "#9" diamond necklaces, which were designed in honor of his jersey number.

In February, it was revealed that three men had been arrested and charged in connection with the robbery, which Burrow described as a "violation."

"So obviously everybody has heard what has happened," he said. "I feel like my privacy has been violated in more ways than one. And way more is already out there than I would want out there and that I care to share, so that’s all I got to say about that.” 

Chilean nationals Jordan Francisco Quiroga Sanchez, 22, Bastian Alejandro Orellana Morales, 23, and Sergio Andres Ortega Cabello, 38, were indicted in a federal court in Cincinnati on Feb. 5—two months after they allegedly broke into Burrow's home while he was in Texas for a game against the Dallas Cowboys.

A statement issued by the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Southern District of Ohio revealed that the three men were busted during a routine traffic stop several days after the robbery took place. Analysis of a phone belonging to one of the men indicated that he had "deleted photographs of the stolen goods and the back of the victim's home" during the traffic stop, authorities allege.

Photos "of the defendants in southeast Florida days after the burglary with luxury luggage and wearing the stolen jewelry" were also found during this analysis. One image shows a fourth man posing with the arrested parties.

Authorities believe the alleged thieves broke into Burrow's residence during a security detail shift change at around 6 p.m. on Dec. 9, 2024. Security cameras were then found to contain video footage of "a man carrying luggage and walking through the wooded area behind the home."

"It is believed the burglary likely occurred between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.," a press release explained. "The homeowner was away from his residence playing in an NFL game in Dallas.

"During a security detail shift change at the home at approximately 6 p.m., security personnel walked the perimeter of the house and no windows appeared to be broken at that time."
