The sweet life takes on a whole new meaning at a newly listed 10-acre Vermont estate—where a disused maple sugar shack has been given a new lease on life as a stunning family retreat.

The compound in Andover, VT, was originally designed to serve as the venue for a family-run maple sugar business, but has since been transformed into a stunning three-bedroom residence with a guest yurt.

When the sellers purchased the property a decade ago, it was just vacant land. However, they were able to see the potential in the parcel and its incredible natural amenities.

Since taking ownership in 2015, they sculpted the land to create a mountain respite for both humans and wildlife alike, providing views that “nourish the soul” and preserving woodland with natural food plots to feed local deer and turkeys.

Constructed in 2016, the custom yurt provided a home base for the owners as they developed their vision.

“The renovation work for the interior of the main home was completed in 2024," says listing agent Cheyanne Pugliese, of The Haven Group.

Built in 2018, the main structure on the property was used as a family-run sugar house for five years before it was transformed into a single-family residence.

But hosting and shared experiences have always been a part of the dwelling, which was initially used as a gathering place for friends and family to celebrate the transition from winter to spring as they shared the time-consuming task of transforming sap into syrup.

“There is something magical about a Vermont sugar shack,” says Pugliese. “It’s warm; it smells sweet; and people have this energy about them—the happiness of spring coming after a long winter.”

The family's maple syrup was even used to make the initial batches of Colorado's Grizzly Bear bourbon.

"You feel like you are on top of the world at this property," she says. "You can see all the way down to the valley, and there are beautiful views from every room in the house."

Surrounded by meadows and open fields, the newly reimagined post-and-beam residence was designed to combine "rustic charm with contemporary comfort."

Found throughout the 1,470-square-foot interior are oversized windows, wood ceilings, and exposed beams. A chef's kitchen has stainless-steel appliances, custom cabinetry, and an oversized breakfast bar.

"The home is defined by light, comfort, and thoughtful efficiency,” Pugliese says. “It is designed in a very forward-thinking way.”

At the main house, both bedrooms are light-filled and intentionally designed. The primary suite faces east, welcoming the morning sun, and boasts a private sauna and modern bathroom with a dual-sink vanity and a glass shower.

Another bedroom has four built-in beds and incorporates the former sugarhouse steam vent, now framed with windows.

Outdoors, there is a 25-foot, spring-fed pond that can be stocked with fish.

"The pond and pond house is another great part of the property,” Pugliese notes. “It is a gathering place for family and friends in the summer months. This is a home for all seasons. Andover is ideal for its proximity to skiing. It is nearby Okemo, Magic, Stratton Mountain, and Bromley. Mount Snow is a quick drive away, and you can get to Killington and Pico within an hour.

"The home is located right in the heart of ski country. You can also snowmobile directly from the property and hop onto the VAST trail network, which is a statewide trail system."

Currently being used for guest accommodations, the one-bedroom yurt could be transformed into a home office, art studio, or yoga/meditation space. There is also a deck, so the next buyer could also enjoy outdoor yoga.

Since the town of Andover does not have a short-term rental ordinance, the yurt could be used for additional income.

“The next owner will be someone who wants to intentionally change the pace they live, unplug, and go into Vermont mode,” Pugliese says. “It's an amazing home that is essentially brand-new for someone to move in and enjoy.”
