Simone Biles Says She’s Staying at Home ‘for the Foreseeable Future’ Because the Cost of Being a Celebrity Is Too High

Gymnast Simone Biles has warned that she will forgo all future red carpets event and instead remain at home "where it's free," because the cost of getting glammed up for the cameras has become too expensive for her to justify.

Biles, 29, who has become a regular fixture at celebrity events in recent years—particularly after taking a step back from professional sport—took to TikTok to lament the soaring cost of red carpet preparation, claiming that the price of her stylist fee, along with her hair and makeup artists, for a recent event hit a sky-high $23,000.

The three-time Olympian began her video by asking her fellow celebrities, athletes, and influencers to share their experiences, questioning whether the price she had paid was the "new normal," adding that, if it is, she is happy to skip all future events.

"If you're a celebrity, athlete, influencer, these questions are for you," she said, while relaxing in the living room of her custom-built Texas mansion.

"I just need to know if this is normal. Because I know going outside is expensive as f--k these days, but is it this expensive? I just recently had a red carpet event [and] with the stylist fee, hair and makeup team, my grand total ... any guesses? I'll wait. It's probably higher than what you're thinking. Keep going.

"Yeah, $22,000. Actually $23,000."

Biles further noted that while she "gets inflation" and appreciates that "prices these days have gone up," she does not feel equipped to continue paying that sum every time she needs to attend an event—claiming that she will simply turn down future invitations if she's going to have to fork out that much to feel her best in front of the cameras.

"I just want to know, is that f--king normal? I get inflation, I get prices these days have gone up," she went on. "But if that's the new norm, you all can have it, you all will never see me at another event. I'm going to sit my ass right here, where it's free. Free!"

The gymnastics superstar, who has an estimated net worth of around $25 million, then questioned others who attend these kind of star-studded events to share their own experiences, asking whether anyone else has encountered such a significant price tag attached to glam services.

She then joked that, if $23,000 is the expectation moving forward, she would sooner return to her gymnastics career than continue pursuing a more celebrity-centric career path.

"So yeah, please just let me know below in the comments, because I'm kind of spiraling since then," she shared. "Because I see a lot of y'all at events and there's no way you guys are paying these prices each and every time. Because some of y'all be outside for real.

"But there's just no way. And if so, baby let me go put that leotard back on, because ... yeah. Actually no, I just won't go."

However, while Biles admitted her horror over the prices of the services she required, she urged her followers not to target the experts that she worked with, insisting that her video was more about seeking answers instead of criticizing those who work in the fashion and beauty industries.

"By the way, my intention for this video isn't so you guys can go and bash people or whatever the case is," she said. "There's no ill intent, I just need to know if this is normal, that's really it. Because if it is, I'm staying inside."

While the athlete did not share details about the event for which she was forced to pay $23,000 in styling and beauty fees, she most recently stepped out on the red carpet at the star-studded Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid, Spain, where she wore a feathered gown from designer brand Cong Tri.

Despite the cost of her glam team, Biles did praise their work on her social media accounts, noting that she felt like she was attending the sporting version of the Oscars.

Luckily for Biles, should she decide to miss out on future red carpet events, she will still be able to enjoy the ultimate in luxury at her home in Spring, TX, which she and husband Jonathan Owens have outfitted with all manner of upscale amenities.

The couple spent several years waiting for their dream dwelling to be completed—a process that finally came to an end in November 2025.

Since then, Biles has shared several glimpses inside the property, which sits on the edge of a man-made lake outside of Houston.

Recently, she offered a glimpse of some of the most impressive amenities and features on offer in the home, revealing on her Instagram Stories that the primary suite comes complete with all manner of resort-style additions, many of which might not even be available at a five-star hotel.

Posting a video of her remote-control drapes opening up one morning, the three-time Olympian noted that she had asked her interior designer, Diamond Hadley, to create the ambiance that one might find at a top-rated resort.

"When we designed this bedroom, I told them I wanted it to feel like a hotel and it feels exactly like that," Biles captioned the quick clip, which showed the curtains opening up to the couple's beautiful outdoor patio overlooking their pool.

The gymnast has wasted no time in putting that pool to use, later sharing a photo of herself soaking up some rays on a lounger perched at the water's edge, while one of her dogs lies alongside her.

Another photo showed two of the couple's dogs sleeping under a beautiful marble table that sits on the covered patio, serving as the perfect place for al fresco dining—or for retreating from the heat of the Texas sun when poolside perching gets too much.

Set on the edge of the human-made lake, the pool looks out over the water and comes complete with a sizable spa, as well as several areas for entertaining or relaxing.

Remarkably, however, the pool is one of the more traditional features found at the home. Biles also revealed that the primary bathroom in the abode has been outfitted with a red light showerhead, an item that she appears to have sourced from Higher Dose, a company that specializes in infrared technology.

According to the brand's website, its Red Light Showerhead Filter, which retails for $599, was designed to support "circulation, cellular energy, skin health, and overall balance."

Biles also took a moment to showcase a flashy new accessory that she and Owens had delivered to their property: a brand-new golf cart that they will likely use to tool around the local community.

Sharing a photo of the vehicle perched on a truck bed, the sporting superstar wrote: "Special delivery this morning."

As for the more personal touches in their dwelling, Biles has begun adding nods to her impressive career inside her private office, which she revealed is now home to several framed accolades, including her Sports Illustrated cover from January 2025, when she was named as the magazine's Sportsperson of the Year 2024.

Above that sits another Sports Illustrated cover, this time featuring Biles posing alongside her fellow Olympians Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky. They were hailed as "The Greatests: Stars of a Red Hot American Summer" after their stellar performances at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.

A poster from the Gold Over America Tour—a program that Biles began in September 2021, following that year's Olympics in Tokyo—completes the trio of framed achievements.

Biles has also previously shared an in-depth look at the very complex process of bringing her dream dwelling to life, revealing that the couple began their design process in 2020—five years before they were able to move in.

"Home building requires a lot of patience," she wrote in a November post on Instagram, while sharing a video of herself and Owens that was taken when only the framework of the home had been built.

"Started the design process in 2020 and took a year to complete," she said of the first step they took in their homebuilding journey.

"Approvals took a while from [the] HOA; broke ground in Feb 2022; completed 11/11/25," she added. "They lied when they said nine months to build!"

Still, the gold medalist was quick to voice her pride at having finally finished the mansion: "Anyways proud of us. ILYSM @jowens," she wrote.
