Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens Play ‘Chicago Tourists for the Day’ After Snapping Up Home in the Windy City for NFL Season

Gymnast Simone Biles and her NFL star husband, Jonathan Owens, have called Chicago their second home for nearly two years now—but that didn't stop the A-list duo from spending a weekend soaking up some of the city's best attractions while playing "tourists for the day."

Biles, 28, and Owens, 30, are primarily based outside of Houston, where they have spent the past two years building a stunning lakefront mansion.

However, when the football pro signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Bears in 2024, the couple committed to living in the Windy City for at least half the year, with Biles revealing in May of this year that they had found themselves a home there, which would serve as their base during the NFL season.

While much of their time in Chicago has been dedicated to Owens' intense training schedule—with Biles traveling back and forth between the midwest city and their home in Texas—the duo had a rare opportunity to enjoy some fun this past weekend, when the Bears were scheduled for their bye week.

And they took full advantage, with Biles documenting their fun-filled Chicago day on her Instagram Stories, sharing images of the duo visiting all manner of tourist hot spots, from the iconic Cloud Gate sculpture—which is known as "The Bean"—to the TILT experience at the 360 CHICAGO Observation Deck.

Clearly eager to make the weekend feel as much like a staycation as possible, the duo spent the night in a hotel—starting their day with a workout in the gym, before enjoying some delicious-looking room service breakfast.

Biles couldn't help but poke fun at her husband as he exercised on a treadmill, flipping himself around to run backwards on the belt, prompting his wife to joke: "Good morning. Waiting for Jonathan to bust his ass."

Luckily, it appears that Owens escaped unharmed—and he and Biles set out for their first stop of the day: artist Anish Kapoor's famous Bean sculpture, which has been one of the city's most popular tourist attractions since it was completed in 2006.

Pausing to snap a selfie in the sculpture's reflective surface, Biles and Owens then made their way to the Centennial Wheel at the Navy Pier, where they enjoyed soaring views of Chicago from nearly 200 feet in the air.

The duo appear to have plumped for the VIP experience, which affords guests a private gondola, rather than having to cram in with several other tourists.

Still, they managed to snap two sweet photos of themselves inside the gondola, which shows them both modeling dark shades and T-shirts.

"Chicago tourists for the day," Biles captioned one photo, which showed the inside of their gondola during the ride.

After stopping off for a refreshing drink at JoJo’s ShakeBAR opposite the Centennial Wheel—which Biles paused to take a picture of—the duo were off to reach new heights, this time at the 360 CHICAGO Observation Deck, which is located at the top of a soaring high-rise building overlooking Magnificent Mile.

The deck sits 1,030 feet above ground and includes the iconic TILT experience, which involves visitors bravely leaning against a pane of glass as it tilts toward the ground, making it feel as though you are hovering over the city.

"Guests enter a special area, grab onto the handlebars, lean forward, and hold their breath as the glass tilts to move eight people over the city," the official website explains.

"TILT (also known as the tilting glass ledge) is a different experience by day as the light casts over the city than by night when the sparkling lights add another dimension to the thrill. It's an experience you won't forget!"

Biles and Owens didn't seem to balk at the prospect of leaning themselves over the Windy City, with an image taken of the duo mid-tilt showing them both beaming happily as they gripped the handlebars.

The gymnast also got a kick out of one particular reference that was displayed inside the experience, noting that a single pane of TILT glass is able to "easily hold a Chicago Bears linebacker standing on top of it."

Last, but not least, Biles hit the town on Saturday night, sharing images of two fruity cocktails displayed on a bar, before revealing a video that appears to have been taken inside a night club.

Owens will now return to training ahead of the Bears' Week 6 match-up against the Washington Commanders, which will be held Monday, Oct. 13., at Northwest Stadium in Landover, MD.

Meanwhile, a question mark hangs over Biles' future in professional sport, after she hinted that she has not yet ruled out making a bid for Team USA for the Paris 2028 Olympics.

Speaking to Olympics.com, the athlete—who has competed in three Olympic Games starting in 2016—admitted that she has not decided whether she wants to retire or give herself another shot at Olympic glory before ending her career on the mat for good.

However, Biles noted that, whenever she chooses to leave gymnastics, she wants to do so on her own terms, rather than being forced to retire at a time that doesn't feel right to her.

"I want it to be my choice when I’m done," she said. "I don’t want the doctors to be like, ‘Hey, you can’t move on.'"

Biles added that, while she hasn't decided whether the 2024 Paris Games were her last, she would be happy to end her career with that performance.

"I’m grateful that if this (Paris) was the end, that I got to choose my ending," she explained.

When asked whether she would return to the sport in the hopes of securing a spot on Team USA for the 2028 Games, Biles conceded that she has left that door open.

"There’s more to it. … We’ll definitely see," she shared.

In the meantime, the athlete—who has won seven Olympic gold medals—appears to be content supporting her husband's sporting career from the sidelines, while also pursuing her own endorsement deals with brands like Athleta and GK Elite.

It is currently unclear where Owens will end up next year, with his Bears contract currently set to expire at the end of the 2025 season.
