The Coolest Home Ever? Incredible Converted L.A. Warehouse Filled With ‘Priceless’ Sports Cars Lists for $12.5 Million
The real estate market is full of unique properties—but one converted warehouse in Los Angeles might just take the cake for the coolest home of all time after being given a remarkable makeover by its fashion designer owner, who transformed it into a studio/living space/garage for his priceless car collection.
British fashion designer and car collector Magnus Walker has owned the 1902 property since 2000, finding many uses for it through the years, turning the property into such an iconic attraction that it is now known as “The Magnus Walker Warehouse.”
Not only is it a live/work space, but it’s also an art gallery, a filming location, and workshop/flagship store for his clothing brand, Serious Clothing. It also famously houses his enormous car collection, which includes dozens of Porsche 911s.
But any potential buyers who want to flex their interior-design muscles will have plenty of opportunity to do that with the $12.5 million warehouse, which offers endless opportunities for an array of uses, thanks to its massive size and unusual layout.
According to the listing, it would be perfect to transform into a recording studio or production complex.
It’s not hard to see how Walker gets so much out of this two-level dwelling, which boasts a more than 25,000 square feet of space.
“Introducing The Magnus Walker Warehouse. Situated in the heart of the Downtown Los Angeles Arts District, this magnificent and soulful, two-story brick loft building, circa 1902, is the ultimate inspiration ground for any creatively inclined owner/user or commercial business with an eye for a one of a kind trophy property in an A+ location,” the listing crows.
“Perfect for a buyer looking for a recording studio or production complex/clubhouse. A very rare offering – a legitimate gem and a once in a lifetime opportunity – it is ready for its next stewards’ imagination and vision.”
Vroom, vroom
It’s unassuming from the outside, with an industrial-looking facade boasting metal details.
There’s a secure and discreet gated entry which leads to a serene courtyard, giving the address an unexpectedly charming feel. You can also count on enough parking for 12 cars here, with plenty more room inside if needed.
Walker certainly made plenty of use out of the space in the home, with listing photos revealing that he housed several “priceless” cars in the property’s living area, while also storing dozens of others in the home’s dedicated garage area.
Something special
The interior is expertly designed, with exposed brick walls, vintage patinated wood floors, and high ceilings. Meanwhile, the skylights and large casement windows bring in tons of light, and the operating freight elevator makes it easy to move between levels.
There are also two kitchens, which come in handy when entertaining or hosting.
In a 2021 interview with Sixty Six Magazine, Walker revealed that he and his late wife, Karen, had purchased the property together and worked as a team to turn it into a dream live/work space, sharing it as their residence until her death in 2015.
The couple also made the decision to offer up the home as a filming location, which ultimately saw it featured on a variety of on-screen hits, including “America’s Next Top Model,” “American Idol,” and Missy Elliott‘s “Tweet” music video.
L.A. living
If you’re a fan of outside space, you’re in luck. Besides the courtyard and garden, a spacious rooftop provides 360-degree views of downtown Los Angeles. It’s also a cool place to throw parties or relax at the end of the work day.
Besides having the coolest house on the block, you’ll also be close to everything downtown L.A. has to offer. It’s in the center of the city’s lively Arts District and is a short ride to the Los Angeles Convention Center and the GRAMMY Museum.
