Just one hour outside of New York City, tucked away on a sun-dappled woodland plot, is an A-frame dwelling so "magical" that it feels almost as if you have stumbled into a totally new world.

The A-frame home, which is nestled in Westchester-rock outcroppings in Yorktown Heights, is so bucolic that listing agent Douglas Dill of Houlihan Lawrence/Luxury Portfolio International still has a hard time believing it’s a quick train ride into Manhattan.

“You stand on the terrace of this house and you can’t believe you’re so close to New York City,” Dill says, about the Westchester County listing with an asking price of $1,700,000.

“You feel like you’re in Vermont with the setting and style of home. There’s not that many A-frames in this area. If you go up to Vermont, you’ll see a ski house (like this) nestled into the mountains.”

Described in the listing as “the most magical setting to behold,” the “Woods Home” is a four-bedroom, two-bath property spanning just shy of 5,000 square feet and set on a 6.74-acre lot.

Built in 1966, the sellers snapped up the property 30 years ago as a vacation retreat from Manhattan, and later made it their full-time residence.

A small structure on the property is used as a potting shed and the one-car attached garage—with its high ceiling and natural light—as an artist studio. The home also features a three-car detached garage.

“It’s a four-sided A-frame, an incredibly unique house,” says Dill. “I’ve sold A-frames before but not [ones that are] almost 5,000 square feet, and four-sided with soaring ceilings, walls of glass and acreage.”

Now that the house is 40 years old, there have of course been updates, including to both baths as well as in the kitchen, which now boasts granite countertops and an island. Yet even despite these changes, that original vibe—to easily connect to the outdoors—is still a hallmark feature.

“The best part of the house is that every single room of the house has outside access in some way or form,” explains Dill, via decks, terraces and balconies outfitted with sliding doors. “Outside is very much a part of this house. Every room has this incredible wooded or water view.”

The listing also calls this property “a true entertainer’s delight,” and that applies to both indoor and outdoor spaces.

Because the seller collects wine, a wine cellar is all set to welcome the next wine-loving owner in a space large enough to host tastings with friends. Then, outside, there’s an in-ground pool and woodland pond, as well as sculptures and gardens.

“One side of you is DEP (Department of Environmental Protection)-owned property that’s never going to be developed. It just feels so secluded, private and serene,” says Dill.

In addition to impeccable stewardship by the sellers and past owners, another reason why the Huntersville neighborhood, where this home resides, is so “bucolic,” says Dill, “is because of the New York reservoir system. You’re not allowed to motorboat (on the lake). You can rowboat or fish with a permit. It’s kept very pristine.”

In fact, the listing also calls the neighborhood “Westchester's best kept secret.”

“It is very appealing to a Manhattan buyer who wants a year-round getaway,” says Dill.
