A condo located inside a historic New York building that was built as a tool factory in 1865 and later used as a Civil War-era munitions foundry has hit the market for $2.1 million—complete with a terrace that houses the structure's original smokestack.

The Brooklyn warehouse, originally built as a tool manufacturing facility for C.W. Weld, was converted into a luxury apartment building in 2007, offering just 21 loft condominiums across its four stories.

Now, one of the more unique units in that building has hit the market, offering a stunning private terrace and garden that houses the factory's original 70-foot smokestack, which has been repurposed as a one-of-a-kind outdoor fireplace.

But the smokestack is just one of the jaw-dropping amenities on offer at the 1,132-square-foot duplex, which has maintained many of the building's original features—including soaring ceilings and enormous windows—all of which make for a truly astonishing residence.

"It has these incredible 17-foot ceilings with floor-to-ceiling windows that expose an approximate 750-square-foot bilevel garden that has been professionally landscaped and irrigated," says listing agent Rhonda Vitoulis of Corcoran. "When you look out, there is a 70-foot smokestack. I have never before in my life seen anything like it."

Far from overwhelming the outdoor space, the smokestack actually enhances the terrace's ambiance, making it feel like a secluded oasis, with the towering structure standing guard over the area.

Plants and trees were added to the garden to give it an organic warmth, creating a beautiful juxtaposition to the building's industrial lines.

Inside, however, guests will be met with a more modern aesthetic, courtesy of the one-bedroom loft's open floor plan. It features the living area and kitchen on the main floor, while the primary suite is located on the upper level.

"The most recent update the sellers put in is a new Daikin hybrid central air-conditioning and heating system that is state-of-the-art," Vitoulis says.

Other interior highlights include an eye-catching black staircase and hardwood floors.

"Underneath the steel staircase on the main level, there is a beautiful built-in storage unit with sliding doors that is black, so it disappears," she adds.

A chef's kitchen with custom cabinetry, high-end appliances, and an oversized breakfast bar flows seamlessly into the living and dining areas, which overlook the rear courtyard. A renovated powder room with a stackable washer and dryer can also be found on this level.

Upstairs, an L-shaped en suite bedroom features two oversized closets and a "generous landing area" at the top of the stairs that could be used as a home office, nursery, or gym.

"I picture a few buyers for the home: a single person or a young couple who just had a baby or are thinking of having one, because the landing area presently set up as a work area could also be a nursery, or retirees looking to downsize," Vitoulis notes.

"They could be coming from a home in the West or South, and because it's a condo, it feels like a smaller home."

Outdoors, the stunning space designed for entertaining and relaxing features a split-level Brazilian walnut deck and automated lighting.

"There is also a gorgeous area where you could install a small pool, cold plunge, or sauna," she says. "The outdoor space is a real unicorn, and it has a retractable awning, so you always have shade from the sun. It's truly a one-of-one property."

The apartment, which Vitoulis believes will likely be used as a primary residence, also features wide-plank white oak flooring and recessed lighting throughout the home.

"It's located in what is considered East Williamsburg, which is away from all of the hubbub of Williamsburg," she says.

"The neighborhood is booming right now with so many amazing restaurants and shops. It is also near McCarren Park, which has one of the best red asphalt running tracks, and the premier VITAL Climbing Gym and Padel Haus, which is the largest padel club in the United States."
