SkyMall founder and former Arizona state Sen. Bob Worsley is selling his family’s getaway retreat in the mountains of Heber, AZ.

The 35-acre ranch, listed for $9,475,000, is anchored by a 18,952-square-foot lodge built by Pioneer Log Homes in 2000.

"It’s a huge log cabin he built just for his family and his grandchildren," says listing agent Josie Pakula with Russ Lyon Sotheby's International Realty. "It’s just really awesome."

Named Legacy Lodge by its owners, it "began with a desire to build a place for our children and grandchildren to gather for holidays and vacation in the hopes that we could bring contrast between our traditions and time-tested family values with the noise of the world," according to the family’s story on the builder’s website.

The lodge structure was built in Canada out of Western red cedar from British Columbia and transported to Arizona in 20 semitrucks. It took three days for the crew to reassemble it all, using two cranes to move the logs that were 20 to 30 inches wide.

The copper in the roof is from Arizona mines, and the stones are from a creek near the property.

The lodge has 12 bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and all kinds of entertainment spaces.

"Down on the lower level, they've got this huge theater and pingpong tables, pool tables, a bar. Most of the kids hang out there," Pakula explains.

That section of the lodge also has a large bunk room and multistall bathroom for the kids.

The other living spaces and the kitchen are on the main floor with the remaining bedrooms upstairs.

“As big as it is, it's actually really cozy. It's just beautiful,” Pakula says.

Smack in the middle of the lodge's main room is a giant tree that seemingly supports the structure—a nod to the owner's family tree and history.

The tree is 1,250 years old and was already uprooted when it was found.

"It witnessed the invention of most everything you see around you, including electricity and telescopes. And now it stands in strength, prepared to witness the smaller yet significant events to occur in Legacy Lodge," the story says.

Other structures on the property include a four-bedroom, two-bathroom bardominium; a four-bedroom, two-bathroom cabin; a caretaker’s house; and three tiny homes.

"There are a lot of sleeping spaces," says Pakula, noting that the property is a perfect getaway from the desert heat.

"The elevation is high, so it’s cooler. When it’s 120 degrees in Phoenix, it’s 80 degrees up there. It’s just refreshing."

There is also a lake, which is Pakula’s favorite feature on the property.

"It just fun. It's like a gathering place. In the evenings, after dinner, people just go and gather there and hang out," she says. "It’s a natural gathering spot."

The property is surrounded by forest and a bit isolated, about two hours from Phoenix and an hour from a major grocery store, but it’s perfect for family getaways and is self-sufficient.

"It's totally off the grid, which is the coolest thing. It's all powered by strictly solar. It's got its own well, and it's got a generator," Pakula says. "We're ready for the zombie apocalypse if we need it."
