One of the biggest homes in Lexington, KY, is apparently best described with a single word.

“When I first walked in, I was amazed,” recalls listing agent Douglas Schuerman, with eXp Realty. “One word came to mind and that was ‘perfect.’ Everything in this home is museum quality and absolutely perfect … There’s nothing like it.”

Delong Manor is a 24,253-square-foot behemoth, listed for $14.5 million.

The home is one of the largest, if not the largest, in the state.

“We believe it’s the largest home in Lexington for sure, and we believe that it’s still the largest home in the state of Kentucky,” Schuerman says. “We’re not sure if anything else has been built larger.”

Although designed to appear centuries old, the home dates back only to 2001.

“It was patterned after English manor homes that were built back in the 1600s and 1700s,” Schuerman says. “I think the original owner traveled around the world looking at different English manors and different homes with different features, and he put his ideas together and came up with this fabulous home.”

Built with steel, concrete, and Indiana limestone, it’s certainly made to last.

“It couldn’t be built in today’s market for anywhere near the offering price,” Schuerman explains.

Two different owners have had the place since the original owners completed the 50-room house in 2001.

The current owner purchased the property in 2019 for $4 million and began making upgrades, including refinishing or replacing more than 50 mahogany exterior doors.

“At that time, the house had been on the market for a while,” Schuerman says. “The sellers have put a lot of money into it. They’ve touched almost every aspect of the house, inside and out. That’s why it’s in perfect condition today.”

Most of the home’s furnishings are part of the sale.

The main bedroom is on the first floor, and the second floor offers five more bedrooms—four of which have large balconies. Two other bedrooms are situated on the third floor.

“Also, on the second floor, you have an approximately 2,200-square-foot apartment, which has two large bedrooms, a full bathroom, a living room, kitchen, a laundry room, and a dining room,” Schuerman explains, adding that the guest apartment is accessed from inside the house via a separate staircase.

The home sits on more than 10 acres that abound with landscaped gardens, a pool, and sports courts.

“The gardens are amazing, with tons of trees and landscaping,” Schuerman says. “There are trellises that are along the pool, with wisteria, and there are tons of flowers everywhere. It’s very picturesque and very secluded on a gated, private drive.”

Schuerman says other large homes in the area have much of the square footage below grade—but not this one.

“If you were entertaining, you could go from the kitchen all the way to the primary bedroom through a wide open hallway,” he explains. “Most English manors would be more closed in, with a lot of doors going to different rooms. This is wide open.”
